2016 Citroen DS5 Review
Based on the Citroen C-SportLounge concept penned by Jean-Pierre Ploué, the 2016 Citroen DS5 was the third model to make its way into the premium DS line-up back in 2011. Making its first public appearance at the Shanghai Auto Show, the DS5 became the first Citroen branded vehicle to be assembled at Peugeot’s European plant in Sochaux.
Key Features
| Feature | Details |
| Engine | 1.6L / 4-cyl |
| Transmission | 6 Speed Automatic |
| Power | 164hp / 240NM |
| Top Speed | 202 km/h |

Exterior
The 2016 Citroen DS5 belongs to the Compact Executive (D-Segment) of the market and competes with segment heavyweights such as the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Equipped with 18-inch Adelaide alloys in a Brilliant Grey hue, the DS5 features deeply sculpted contours that lend it a truly unique identity.
The generous splash of chrome along the bodywork, along with a honeycomb grille and large fog lamp housings, makes the DS5 instantly recognizable as a Citroen. The two-tone side mirrors blend seamlessly into the 4,530mm long silhouette of the DS5.

Interior
Continuing its quirky and unconventional image, the 2016 Citroen DS5 features three sunroofs, two sunglass holders, and a Porsche-esque center console. The spacious cabin boasts high-quality materials, providing ample leg-room for all occupants. However, rear headroom is slightly compromised due to the stylish sloping roofline.
Safety & Tech
The DS5 comes standard with a range of safety features, earning it a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Alongside ABS and EBD, the DS5 includes Automatic Headlights, Cornering Lights, a Head-Up Display, and an Intelligent Traction Control system for improved driving over various terrains.
Although lacking an infotainment screen, the DS5 provides a straightforward radio unit with steering-wheel controls, delivering impressive audio quality with minimal distortion at high volumes.

Drive
The Citroen DS5 is powered by a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine, co-developed with BMW, generating 164 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds and achieves a top speed of 202 km/h.
With a sportier suspension, the DS5 allows for spirited driving with minimal body roll. However, this stiffness can lead to a harsh and bumpy ride. The six-speed automatic transmission performs well in city driving but may hesitate during aggressive acceleration, resulting in a noticeable drone.
Verdict
While the 2016 Citroen DS5 is visually stunning, it may be considered overpriced within the French manufacturer's line-up. It has significant competition from German rivals, and its true competitors might be Japanese brands instead.
