Introduction to Retro-Inspired Number Plates

Owners of classic cars in the emirate of Dubai can now make their vehicles stand out even more with a retro-inspired, yellow-white number plate that was a common sight over 30 years ago. This new color scheme represents a significant change from the current brown hue used to distinguish classic number plates, featuring improvements to ensure design alignment with the emirate’s standard vehicle plates.

Design Features of the New Plates

“With the new design, the plates can be clearly and easily read from a distance. The design has two distinct elements — the words ‘Dubai’ and ‘Classic’ are written in both Arabic and English on a yellow background, while the number is written on a white background. The RTA will start issuing the new plates for classic vehicles to interested owners from November 2020. Requests can be placed either through the RTA’s website or the customer happiness center in Deira,” said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of RTA.

Criteria for Classifying Classic Vehicles

Specific criteria for classifying a vehicle as classic include:

• Being over 30 years old
• Meeting technical testing requirements
