Comprehensive Comparison Between Jaguar F-Type and F-Type R
This week has been exciting. I wanted to do something different—compare two models of the same type. Ever since I saw Jeremy Clarkson driving the F-Type, I have wanted to take it for a spin, primarily for the exhaust note and to experience a British sports car (F-Type Prices and Specifications). Fortunately, both models were available for me to test drive.
Elegance
In short, the F-Type is exceptionally beautiful. It stands apart from other Jaguar designs and reminds me of the 1950s and 1960s—truly distinctive.
Interior Design
When you’re paying around 300,000 to 470,000, you’d expect to be covered in Persian carpets. However, that’s not the case. You will enjoy plenty of leather, though. The interior is beautifully designed, feeling both robust and practical. My only complaint is the quality of the sunshade.
Differences Between the Models
The main difference between the standard model and the R is the addition of carbon fiber, gold accents, and red seats adorned with R badges.
Interior Space
This is a two-seater sports car with a trunk that can hold four shopping bags. What do you expect from a compact car? The legroom is decent, allowing for comfortable seating.
Interior Features
The F-Type boasts all the features you would expect: airbags, an entertainment system, navigation, blind-spot warning, a rear camera, sensors, driving modes, and more. The primary difference between the V6 and V8 is the exhaust button.
Power and Transmission
The base model features a 3.0L supercharged V6 engine producing 340 ps, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. Spend an additional 170,000, and you can shave off another second with the R.
Handling, Suspension, and Brakes
There is a noticeable difference in handling between the two. The V6 responds slowly when turning, but its suspension is soft and comfortable. The R turns sharply, even at lower speeds, but its suspension is stiff, making the ride less comfortable. As for the brakes, they are excellent.
Conclusion
The choice ultimately depends on your priorities. If you want a car that's comfortable for trips with some sporty features, the best option is the V6. However, if you desire a powerful car for the track that’s also street-legal, then the R is your choice. Personally, I enjoyed simply driving the F-Type and turning heads; interestingly, you don’t see many of them on the streets of the UAE.
