Volkswagen Jetta Review
This time, we are reviewing the Volkswagen Jetta. Given the influx of Japanese cars dominating the market, this vehicle hasn't received the recognition it deserves. A primary reason for this is its resale value. Customers in this segment prioritize the best price, maintenance costs, and resale value over quality and comfort. Consequently, German brands are not their first choice due to higher price points. Let's dive into our experience with the Jetta.
Key Specifications
- Engine: 2.5 liters
- Transmission: 6-speed automatic
- Power: 170 horsepower
- Top Speed: 200 km/h
- Starting Price: 72,000 AED

Exterior Design
The Jetta was introduced about five years ago, and its design hasn't changed significantly since. A minor update for the 2016 model replaced the simplistic design with horizontal lines that enhance the car's aesthetic appeal. The alloy wheels complement the vehicle well, and the bi-xenon and daytime running lights add a touch of luxury, although I believe it's time for a more significant design overhaul.

Interior and Safety
The model I tested is the top-tier SEL. It features leather seats and steering wheel, with aluminum touches that lend a sense of luxury, which is uncommon in this segment. Additionally, you will find Bluetooth, AUX, a touchscreen display, a rearview camera, climate control, eight speakers, and more. The cabin space is ample for front passengers but a bit cramped in the rear. The trunk offers a capacity of 510 liters, which is sufficient for your luggage. In terms of safety, there are six airbags, parking assistance, fog lights, ESP, and hill assistance.

Driving Experience
The Jetta is powered by a 2.5-liter engine that produces 170 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds with a top speed of 200 km/h. The fuel consumption averages 7.1 liters per 100 km. You may notice that the engine feels somewhat outdated and sluggish compared to other modern cars that have shifted towards turbocharged engines. I believe a 210-horsepower engine like that of the Golf would be a better fit for the Jetta. However, the driving experience was comfortable and smooth, outperforming competitors in this regard, with responsive steering. An upgraded engine would certainly enhance the driving pleasure.

Experience Summary
The Volkswagen Jetta is a good option at an affordable price. However, the dealer needs to market this vehicle more effectively.
