The Egyptian government has announced strict new regulations aimed at organizing the local automotive market, imposing limitations on personal vehicle imports. According to a decision published in the official gazette by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, each importer will be allowed to import only one vehicle every five years. This regulation will take effect on Friday, December 29, 2024.
Conditions for Importing New Cars
The government has outlined a set of conditions governing the import process for new personal vehicles. Under this decision, each importer is permitted to bring in just one car over the five-year period. It is essential for importers to provide a bank statement that demonstrates their financial capability to purchase the vehicle, along with using approved banking payment methods through Egyptian banks.
Additionally, importers must complete the approved Form No. 4, with exceptions made for diplomatic vehicles or cars belonging to Egyptians working abroad.
Exemptions from the Car Import Restrictions
- Vehicles that were shipped or arrived at Egyptian ports before the decision's implementation date.
- Vehicles for which documentary credits were opened or whose values were transferred prior to the enforcement of the decision.
- Vehicles directed to foreign embassies and international organizations, which receive exemptions based on international agreements.
What Are the Exceptions to the New Car Import Conditions for 2025?
The government has exempted certain cases from the imposed restrictions on car imports. These exemptions include vehicles that have already been shipped or for which documentary credits exist before the decision goes into effect, as well as cars directed to foreign embassies and international organizations, as stipulated in international agreements.
