Egypt launches a new initiative to convert cars to natural gas for environmental and economic benefits.

Egypt's Initiative to Convert Cars to Natural Gas

The Egyptian government is preparing to launch a new initiative aimed at converting cars to run on natural gas as part of its efforts to reduce harmful carbon emissions and provide economic savings for citizens. Today, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, held a meeting at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to monitor the progress of this important initiative.

Dr. Madbouly noted that this meeting is part of a series of regular sessions aimed at following up on the developments related to the implementation of this initiative, which is set to kick off at the beginning of the new year. He also highlighted the ongoing coordination between the Ministries of Finance and Petroleum to ensure the timely launch of the initiative.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of this initiative in improving the environment by reducing harmful emissions associated with traditional fuel use, in addition to providing financial savings for citizens amid rising fuel prices.

Implementation Steps and Initiative Details

During the meeting, the Minister of Petroleum explained that a joint task force, consisting of representatives from the Ministries of Finance and Petroleum, has completed the preparations for the initiative aimed at converting cars to operate on natural gas. All necessary measures have been taken to ensure the effective implementation of this initiative.

He also mentioned that a public awareness campaign has been developed to educate citizens about the benefits and returns they will gain by participating in the initiative and converting their vehicles to run on natural gas.

Benefits of Converting Cars to Run on Natural Gas

Mohamed Al-Homsani, the official spokesperson for the Prime Minister's office, stated in a press release that the meeting covered a detailed report about the initiative to convert 1.5 million vehicles to run on natural gas. This conversion is expected to result in significant savings in diesel consumption, as converting diesel vehicles to natural gas could save up to 50% of current diesel usage. Additionally, the use of natural gas will reduce the value of subsidies provided for petroleum products.

Procedures and Regulations for the Initiative

A unified website has been announced by the petroleum companies, which is currently in a pilot stage. This website will allow citizens interested in joining the initiative to register starting from the new year. Moreover, citizens who have previously registered at the customer service centers of the companies will be able to complete their conversion procedures easily.

The procedures include clear steps to facilitate the process of converting vehicles to run on natural gas, providing all necessary support and assistance to citizens wishing to participate in the initiative.

Attendance and Participation in the Meeting

The meeting was attended by Ahmed Kouchok, Minister of Finance, and Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, along with several senior officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and the Ministry of Finance, including Essam Omar, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Engineer Yassin Mohamed, CEO of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company, and Engineer Moataz Atef, Head of the Central Administration of the Technical Office at the Ministry of Petroleum, as well as other senior executives involved in the initiative.
