FIA will be introducing the Gen 3 Formula E racer on April 28 ahead of the Monaco E-Prix. Nearly a month ahead of its launch, FIA has given us a shadowy teaser and some very cool details about the next-gen racer.
The Gen 3 racer will be the first formula car with a powertrain at the front (250kW) and the back (350kW) and because of the addition at the front, the new FE car will not have rear hydraulic brakes. It is also lighter, more agile and the FIA says that the aero changes will lead to more wheel-to-wheel racing.
The big headline detail provided by the FIA is that the Gen 3 will feature regenerative braking by which the car will be able to reproduce 40% of the energy used within a race. This is a big step as the cars running out of battery in case of a safety car period in between a race has been a concern in Formula E.
The Gen 3’s design has been inspired from the delta wing of a fighter jet and it will make its debut in Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
