Gamers, rejoice! Forza Horizon 6 is coming next year

After years of rumors and fan speculation, Playground Games has confirmed Forza Horizon 6 will take place in Japan, and it’s planned for release in 2026. The announcement came with a teaser trailer during the Tokyo Game Show, with visual cues like a beckoning cat, chopsticks, and a Japanese license plate pointing clearly to its setting. 

This will mark the first time Horizon has officially ventured into Japan, fulfilling one of the franchise’s most requested locales. The teaser also includes license plates from past Horizon editions, tactfully nodding to Colorado, France, Australia, the UK, and Mexico, while teasing what’s to come.

Japan as a Playground: What To Expect

The move to Japan opens tremendous possibilities for the series. Playground Games has already teased elements of Japanese car culture - touge racing in the mountains, drifting scenes, tuner customization, and the blending of urban and rural landscapes. The teaser suggests the world will include both dense cityscapes like Tokyo and more rural, mountainous roads. Noice.

Art director Don Arceta says the team drew heavily from prior work, such as the Hot Wheels DLC for Horizon 5, which helped them build complex elevated road systems needed to replicate layered cityscapes like Tokyo. The map is reportedly the largest and densest the series has ever attempted. 

Launch Platforms and Timing

Forza Horizon 6 will debut on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2026, and it will be available day one via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Later, a PlayStation 5 version will follow post-launch thanks to collaboration with Turn 10 Studios, though no date has been confirmed yet. 

As for price and preorders, the official FAQ states those details are “coming at a later date.”
