Overview of the Hyundai Elantra Coupe

Hyundai Elantra Coupe

Introduction

Hyundai has transformed the Elantra into a two-door model, introducing the Elantra Coupe, which boasts a sportier appearance while maintaining the same interior space. However, the powertrain remains unchanged, offering the same engine options as the standard Elantra: a 1.6-liter engine producing 121 horsepower and 152 Nm of torque, alongside a larger 1.8-liter engine that delivers 143 horsepower and 186 Nm of torque. The Elantra Coupe is a good choice for those seeking an ideal car with numerous comfort features. However, the driving experience may not be very comfortable.

Performance

The driving experience is not particularly comfortable, as you can feel every bump and imperfection on the road. This is due to the coupe being equipped with a sport suspension, which does not significantly enhance handling, making it feel more like a sedan. The engine options available are:

  • 1.6-liter engine with 121 horsepower and 152 Nm of torque.
  • 1.8-liter engine with 143 horsepower and 186 Nm of torque.

The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 11.8 seconds for the 1.6-liter engine, while the 1.8-liter engine achieves it in 10.4 seconds.

While it may not be the fastest coupe on the market, this can be a positive aspect, as the standard model comes with a single airbag, while the fully equipped version features two. At high speeds, the ride remains smooth and stable, although some noise from the wind can be heard. However, turning on the radio can help drown out these sounds.

Interior

Upon opening the door, you'll notice the spaciousness, making it easier for both front and rear passengers to enter the vehicle. The seats are comfortable and adjustable for the driver. The safety belt extensions help secure the seatbelts properly. There is ample interior space, ensuring that no one will complain about the roominess. However, rear passengers might find the lack of air conditioning vents inconvenient.

The stereo system is excellent and easy to use, featuring AUX/USB ports. Additionally, there are controls for the stereo on the steering wheel. In the fully equipped model, you will also find a push-button start, parking sensors, and a rearview camera displayed in the rearview mirror to assist with parking. The trunk offers good space compared to other coupe models.

Competition

One of the competitors of the Elantra is the Toyota Zelas, which is also a two-door coupe. The Zelas has a more powerful and larger engine, a 2.5-liter unit generating 176 horsepower. The Elantra is the more affordable option, starting at 60,000 AED, while the Zelas begins at 90,000 AED.

Conclusion

Overall, the Elantra is a good car that offers great value for its price. It is a solid choice for those looking to purchase a spacious coupe with a good stereo system and other features. However, as mentioned earlier, the driving experience is not particularly comfortable or powerful.
