Hyundai will be transforming its line of hybrid cars with the release of next-generation hybrid powertrains. The innovation guarantees better fuel efficiency along with increased performance, which goes hand in hand with the brand's vision to deliver sustainable and dynamic mobility solutions.
Smartstream Hybrid Technology: The Backbone of Hyundai's Hybrid Revolution
The Smartstream engine family is at the core of Hyundai's hybrid innovation. The existing Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi Hybrid system features a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and an electric motor, which produces 230 PS and 35.7 kgm of torque as total system output. This arrangement is available on offerings such as the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and Santa Fe Hybrid.

In the Hyundai Staria Hybrid, the same engine is combined with a more powerful 74 PS electric motor, with a combined output of 245 PS and 37.4 kgm of torque.
Hyundai's future hybrid systems will be based on this platform, with even higher efficiency and performance. While details are not yet available, the emphasis is still on maximizing the balance between power output and fuel efficiency.
Integration Throughout the Hyundai Lineup
Hyundai is going to incorporate these new-generation hybrid powertrains in more of its model lineup. Some of these models include the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, which features the Smartstream G2.0 GDi HEV engine, and the Hyundai Palisade, which will likely feature the Smartstream G2.5 T-GDi Hybrid engine.

The Smartstream G2.0 GDi HEV engine provides a total output of 195 PS and 37.5 kgm of torque, while the G2.5 T-GDi Hybrid provides 334 PS and 46.9 kgm of torque. The powertrains are a testimony to Hyundai's efforts to offer a wide range of hybrids catering to different consumer requirements.

Improved Driving Experience and Technological Developments
In addition to performance metrics, Hyundai's next-generation hybrids seek to improve the driving experience overall. The incorporation of sophisticated driver-assist functions, such as Hyundai SmartSense, and infotainment with enhanced screens and wireless connectivity, add to a smoother and more connected drive.

The new hybrid system will also facilitate vehicle-to-load bidirectional charging up to 3.6kW. Noice.
Aspiring to be better in efficiency, and with power, Hyundai's future hybrids stand poised to make customers good alternative choices for going green in transport.
