Increased Taxi Passenger Limit in Dubai
Relaxation of Transport Restrictions
In a move to ease restrictions and encourage mobility during the ongoing pandemic, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has increased the number of passengers allowed in a taxi to three, up from two in the back seat. The additional passenger must be a child aged 14 years or younger.
Statements from the Roads and Transport Authority
The RTA announced via Twitter: "If you are taking a taxi, you can now accompany your child (up to 14 years old) as a third passenger in the vehicle without occupying the seat next to the driver. The maximum number of passengers allowed in a three-row family vehicle (van) remains at four until further notice."
Safety Measures in Place
Emphasizing the requirement to keep the seat next to the driver empty at all times, only two adults (all passengers aged 14 and above) are permitted to sit in the back seat of regular taxis. This initiative encourages families to utilize public transport by making it more convenient for them.
Guidelines for Riding Bus Taxis
For the larger bus taxis in Dubai, each row of seats is allowed to accommodate two passengers (a total of four for two rows) to maintain social distancing.
