Jaguar I Pace: The Future of Electric Sports Cars
Introduction to the Jaguar I Pace
The Jaguar I Pace, unveiled at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, is the British marque’s first electric sports car. It is one of the most striking concepts ever produced by the brand. This aesthetic masterpiece combines design cues from the C-X75 supercar with the smooth silhouette of a coupe into a five-seater SUV.
Design and Features
Ian Callum, Director of Design at Jaguar, stated, “The I-PACE Concept is a radical departure for electric vehicles. It represents the next generation of battery electric vehicle design. It’s a dramatic, future-facing design – the product of authentic Jaguar DNA matched with beautiful, premium details and British craftsmanship.”
The design of the I-PACE Concept features:
- Cabin forward design
- Extended wheelbase
- Shortened overhangs
- Aerodynamic stance
- Increased cabin space
Interior Design
Inside the I Pace, the instrument panel is positioned low, with simple horizontal lines and minimalist switchgear that emphasize the cabin’s spaciousness. The interior finishes create rich textural contrasts, featuring:
- Windsor leather on the front seats
- Laser-cut with Jaguar’s signature lozenge motif
- Contrasting twin-needle stitching
- Colored carbon fibre trim
Performance
The I Pace is equipped with electric motors at the front and rear axles, delivering an impressive 400 horsepower and 700 Nm of instant torque to all four corners. When the accelerator pedal is pressed, the I Pace can reach 100 km/h in just four seconds. However, when driven sensibly, it boasts a range of up to 500 kilometres.
Conclusion
While details are still emerging, there’s no doubt that the Jaguar I Pace is poised to redefine the electric car realm.
