Lamborghini is known for its loud and outlandish concept cars – both in actual volume and design. When it comes to the new Lanzador Concept, however, much of the noise will be generated by onlookers as it zips by. Even though the production version of this Lambo is years away from materializing, the Italian marque has given us a glimpse of what can be expected.

What is the Lamborghini Lanzador?

Yes, it’s a concept at the moment. But what the Lanzador signifies for the posh brand is a move away from solely focusing on ICE cars. The outgoing Revuelto uses a hybrid powertrain (along with a mighty V12), marking Lambo’s entry into a path of ‘greener’ mobility for the well-heeled. However, with modern sports EVs eclipsing several ICE-set performance benchmarks, Lamborghini’s interest in the same seems to have picked up pace.

This is where the upcoming Lamborghini Lanzador will come into play – becoming the brand’s first production EV. Unlike the mid-engine Revuelto, the Lanzador Concept was showcased as an SUV Coupe with a noticeably-high ground clearance. While SUV Coupes aren’t a rarity anymore, a Lamborghini SUV Coupe that’s fully electric should be a sight to behold, especially in a market like the UAE.

Design highlights of the Lamborghini Lanzador Concept

It’s clear that the Lanzador Concept is slightly smaller in scale when compared to the outgoing Urus. However, Lamborghini has retained the muscular shoulders, broad hips, swooping roofline, and hefty stance of its highly-successful SUV intact with this concept. The wedge-shaped nose pulls one closer, drawing attention to the ‘bull’s horns’ on the front bumper, while the sharpness of the design is highlighted by the sleek LED headlights.

There are side air curtains and centrally-located intakes, plus ultra-slim horizontal LEDs below the headlights. The Lanzador lacks conventional ORVMs and door handles but boasts hugely-flared fenders housing 23-inch wheels with chunky tires – typical of a concept car. It also gets captivating LED taillights and a svelte but muscular-looking rear – not unlike modern-day Lambos.

The Lanzador Concept features the brand’s active aerodynamics system. This sees the inclusion of an active front splitter & air shutter, active cooling vanes & ducts, and concealed wheelhouse vents, among other clever aero tricks. If it looks anything like this, the production version of the Lamborghini Lanzador Concept would be a big hit!

Two small screens on either side of the dashboard project the rearview using neatly-hidden cameras. The angular and rakish interior theme is gelled with the sloping dashboard and center console where there is a barrage of protruding buttons & dials. The whole design of this cockpit isn’t far from looking like a full-fledged Transformer – there are plenty of futuristic design details to drool over.

There’s a widescreen digital driver’s display and a similar-sized display for the front passenger. The highly-stylized ‘hollow’ design of the steering wheel with its large paddles and the Y-shaped center console is pretty striking. Lambo has utilized genuine Merino wool, along with regenerated carbon & nylon (among other recycled plastics). Even the tanning process for sustainable leather is the result of the treated water sourced from olive oil production.

Not only does the Lanzador Concept sit low to the ground, the seats are placed low as well. This, along with the roomy interior, should make driving this Lambo SUV a pretty sporty experience. While there are two rear seats (with fancy roof-mounted headrests), the actual headroom there is bound to be low. What doesn’t look too shabby even in this concept car is the boot space. Despite the overly-stylized floor, there’s enough room back there for several large bags.

Powertrain highlights of the Lamborghini Lanzador Concept

Lamborghini has fitted the Lanzador Concept with two electric motors, one on each axle. This means that there’s all-wheel drive power and traction. Lamborghini claims the dual motors produce a peak output that “exceeds one megawatt” – in other words, at least 1,341 horsepower. The Lanzador is equipped with the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) driving dynamics control system.

This system allows the driver to switch between different drive modes on the fly, including several customization options. In combination with the adaptive air suspension and rear-axle steering, the Lanzador should not only tackle varying surface conditions with sophistication and ease but also handle corners well. The low center-of-gravity provided by the low-set batteries will further this EV’s cornering abilities.

Expected price & launch of the Lamborghini Lanzador

The Lamborghini Lanzador Concept was unveiled back in 2023. The production version of this concept car was first announced to be launched in 2028. However, owing to certain market conditions, the official launch of the new Lamborghini Lanzador is likely to hit the global market in 2029. While there’s no confirmation regarding its price, the Lanzador EV could start from around USD 350,000 (appx. AED 1.28 million).
