Lotus Evija: The Ultimate Hypercar Experience
The Lotus Evija is the brand new hypercar from British manufacturer Lotus. It is currently touring the region, supported by a new factory in Norfolk set to manufacture a range of products launching in 2021 and 2022. Parent company Geely Motors is banking on these innovations to revive the brand.
Performance and Specifications
The Evija is Lotus's flagship halo hypercar, producing an astonishing 2000 HP from its battery pack, marking the company’s first all-electric car. When it hits the road, it is expected to be the world's fastest series-production car. Key performance features include:
- Four motors, one behind each wheel, each capable of producing 500 HP.
- Torque-vectoring capabilities allowing each wheel to spin at different speeds for enhanced cornering.
- Active and passive aerodynamic features, including venturi tunnels, numerous vents, and spoilers.
Acceleration and Weight
Performance-wise, the Evija can accelerate from 0-100 kph in less than three seconds and 0-300 kph in under nine seconds. It features an all-carbon-fiber tub, constructed similarly to an F1 car tub, weighing only 129 kg. The total weight of the Evija is 1680 kg when it comes on the road.
Charging Innovation
The Evija boasts the world's fastest charging battery. Partnering with Williams Advanced Engineering, the battery can accept an 800 kW charge. Although commercially available charging units capable of delivering this are not yet on the market, it will eventually allow for a full recharge in just nine minutes. With existing technology, such as a 350 kW unit, the Evija's charge time will be:
- 12 minutes to reach 80% charge.
- 18 minutes for a full 100% charge.
Interior Design
The Evija's interior is designed with minimalism in mind, utilizing weight-saving techniques such as all-carbon-fiber seats and a floating console. It aims to provide a sense of light, space, and luxury. Key design features include:
- Controls displayed on a minimalist high-definition digital dashboard.
- A "ski slope" style center console for functionalities and buttons.
- A steering wheel inspired by Le Mans and F1 cars, featuring five driving modes: Range, City, Tour, Sport, and Track.
Pricing and Customization
Priced at a starting point of USD 2.2 million, only 130 cars will be manufactured globally. Lotus offers customizable solutions for each owner to ensure their car reflects their personality. Potential owners and VIPs are being hosted at the brand new Lotus showroom worldwide.
