Mercedes-Benz has been producing the C63 AMG since 2008 and has been dominating the mid-range sports car market ever since. With the initial release of the C63 being powered by a 6.2L V8, the C63 was heralded as the fasted 4 door saloon when released, and went on to decimate competitors such as the Audi RS4 and BMW M3. Now, Mercedes has just released the brand new 2017 C63 AMG S Coupe Edition 1, and the bar has undoubtedly been raised!

Key Features:
Engine BiTurbo 4.0L V8
Transmission 7G- Tronic Automatic
Power 510hp / 700 NM
Top Speed 250km/h Limited
Price AED 457,000

Exterior

Mercedes AMG C63 S 2017 Rear

The 2017 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG S Edition 1 is inspired by the C63 DTM race car, with the most noticeable accents being the racing stripe across the length of the car, the light up AMG door sills, and the painted 20’’ forged cross spoke wheels. The Edition 1 also comes with even more outrageous and aggressive front and rear splitters than the standard C63 S AMG. The coupe looks absolutely stunning with a smooth, streamlined body; I mean just look at the thing!

I can understand there may be people who think it might be a little over the top, but I believe it would be hard to find an individual that would say no. All in all, the car looks like it wants to kill you and we absolutely love that!

Interior

Mercedes AMG C63 S 2017 Interior

Once you've picked your jaw up off the floor and made your way inside, it just seems to get better and better. I mean have they built the perfect road legal race car? With black Nappa leather and yellow diamond stitching everywhere, it feels handcrafted and elegant. The seats, being buckets, are in fact very comfortable and surprisingly spacious too. The Edition 1 comes with a full Alcantara covered steering wheel and carbon fiber center console, and yes it’s real carbon fiber, none of that faux stuff in here.

Believe me, I have thought long and hard about what isn't good and the only thing I can come up with, is that while you can fit people in the back, they won't have a very comfortable ride. The headroom is lacking and the seats are stiff, not providing much support. Also, the volume button is hidden from the driver's view by the infotainment controls and whenever you want to use the infotainment controls with a passenger in the car, you are guaranteed to rub elbows. Negligible issues we’re willing to overlook, really.

Safety & Tech

Mercedes AMG C63 S 2017 Interior -2

The C63 AMG S comes standard with a vast array of safety equipment including, Attention Assist, which alerts the driver if the vehicle detects you nodding off and Crosswind Assist. When the vehicle feels it is being pushed out of its path from strong winds, it will steer slightly, just to correct its path.

The C63 AMG S also comes with Blind spot assist, 10-way airbag protection, adaptive braking technology, anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist (BAS), electronic stability control (ESP) and Mercedes’ all new Pre-Safe system that can detect instability during certain maneuvers that may suggest the vehicle is about to crash or rollover. At this point, the seatbelts will tighten, front seats will adjust and all windows will close, to keep the occupants as safe as possible.

The C63 AMG S is also very well equipped in the technology department with high resolution screens, Bluetooth audio streaming, dual USB audio ports, a SD card reader and a touch pad controller. The fantastic Burmester premium surround sound system is best in class with crystal clear audio. The optional extras include a touchpad to write phone numbers or letters for the satnav, as well as heads up display and in car Wi-Fi hotspot.

Drive

Mercedes AMG C63 S 2017 Engine

The engine in the Edition 1 is the same as the standard C63 AMG S, but does come with an extra 150 Nm of torque. This may not sound like much, but I can assure you this car is an absolute rocket and will blast to 100 km/h in around 3.8 seconds, and the Edition 1 comes standard with Carbon Ceramic brakes for when you need to stop for that ever so quickly enclosing speed bump, or as I like to call them in this car, chiropractor visits. The 7G Tronic transmission in is my opinion, best in class with smooth yet lightning fast gear changes and the sport paddles which in most cars lag, certainly don't in the C63 AMG S.

When you end up pointing it towards a corner, you quickly get the feeling a hell of a lot of engineering has gone into the development of the Edition 1, and you feel the DTM blood in its veins. I promise this car will go around a corner and not shudder in the slightest. Having said that, if you put your foot down half way through a corner, it’s a different story. I’ve driven a few powerful cars in my time with the Cadillac CTS-V, ATS-V and most recently the Lexus GSF, none of which are as tail happy, but if you drive it properly, none will touch the Edition 1 around the bends.

The quad tail pipes spit out the sort of noise you would expect to hear from a commercial jet liner and, in fact, when I started her up over the weekend not too late into the night, I was asked to get out and stay out of a residential area. So, I think it’s easy to conclude that this car is about as antisocial as it gets. But that's what this car is about, it’s not here to make friends, it's here to stand by itself and have the competition stare in awe at what it achieves.
