The GLC Class is the C Class equivalent from Mercedes Benz for the crossover lovers. It is the modern class introduced as part of the next generation of the former GLK Class in 2015 and competes with the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and the Range Rover Evoque.

Exterior

The 2017 Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe looks like its larger sibling, the GLE Coupe, especially from the rear. Mercedes Benz have done a great job at making the GLC Coupe a modern, savvy looking dynamic coupe that is in line with the needs and wants of today’s trendy customers.

Its futuristic design is boosted by the long LED tail lamps, sports styled exhausts and the diamond radiator grille. It’s a treat to look at and much sleeker than some of its competitors from an aesthetic viewpoint. Details are pleasant throughout and the spoiler melds well with the overall design.

Interior

A classy ambiance and solid built quality, the Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe is equipped with all the right ingredients to make it a modern German crossover. The raw-wood patterns as part of the interior, are a hit or miss, but do add a certain aesthetic value. Other options include the standard Linden Wood, Black Walnut Wood, and an optional Black Ash Open-Pore Wood, but all feature the same pattern.

The seats are wrapped in two-tone leather and are very sporty with multiple options for electronic adjustments that allows you to get as comfortable as you please. Memory buttons help save settings for up to 3 people and the car also comes equipped with heated seats, something that doesn’t go amiss with the cold spell we are undergoing in the UAE currently.

The interior pretty much follows the design out of the C Class, which isn’t surprising, considering the GLC coupe is targeted at a market of basic crossover lovers. Stunning with round vents and just the right amount of detail, brightness and finish, the cabin is great to look at and be within.

Safety & Features

The Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe 2017 comes with an impressive set of safety features. As it’s an all-new vehicle, we anticipate its safety ratings would be no lower than those of the car it is based on.

Features include but are not limited to, Attention Assist, Collision Prevention Assist Plus (CPA+), Head-Up Display, and Parktronic. While the former works to alert distracted drivers, the Collision Prevention Assist calculates the difference in speed between the vehicle and the car in front and slows the vehicle down, or even brings it to a complete halt if necessary.

The Blind Spot Monitoring system with Cross Traffic Assist, shows hazard lights on the side mirrors and warns drivers if there is an obstruction in the lane. While the Head Up Display shows information such as a digital readout of the speed on the windscreen, Parktronic assists drivers in finding parking spaces and parking with 360-degree cameras located around the car.

Drive

Comfortable, smooth, and virtually silent, the 2.0-liter engine, though a tad underpowered, is ideal for the everyday commute. The first car in Mercedes’ line-up to feature a 9-speed automatic transmission, the 2017 GLC Coupe offers smooth shifts all through the rev range. Packed with 211 horsepower, it reaches 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds – decent for a crossover with its dimensions.

Drive modes include Comfort, Economy, and Sport+, with each making alterations to the engine management, suspension, and steering. What remained evident, however, was the fact that if you chose the Sport+ mode, the steering and suspension stayed in Comfort, defeating the purpose of several drive modes.

The vehicle is packed with features that help it achieve the driving comfort it is well praised for. The suspension and quiet cabin make it easy for it to even ride smoothly over potholes so that it doesn’t disrupt occupant comfort.

A good crossover for someone who is looking to make a style statement and not compromise on build quality and features, the Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe 2017 is a car that stands out from its rivals.
