2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC 300 Review
Introduction
Mercedes entered the compact luxury roadster market with the SLK back in 1996, introducing the first of three generations, the R170, followed by the R171 in 2004 and the R172 in 2011. The all-new Mercedes SLC is designed to take over the throne of the long-standing and market-dominating SLK. We’ve got one for the weekend, so let’s see what all the fuss is about.

Exterior Design
The all-new Mercedes SLC 300 has undergone significant changes on the exterior, all of which are positive. The SLC features smooth lines and pretty curves, making it more visually appealing than its predecessor. The rounded nose and dual-element headlights modernize the SLC, ensuring it remains a front-runner in its class.
The SLC 300 we drove was top of the line and came with brand new 18-inch alloys available only if you purchase the AMG kit, along with an AMG bodykit that adds a slight aggressiveness.
Interior Features
The interior of the SLC is similar to the SLK, which may seem dated, but it still offers a comfortable experience without feeling claustrophobic. The SLC includes a new 7-inch instrument screen and a sporty steering wheel, emphasizing its modernity.
The folding hardtop roof is quick and quiet, operable up to 30km/h, allowing for a seamless transition to open-air driving without interruptions. The boot space is adequate for a couple of shopping bags, and the AMG line features red stitching for a sporty touch.
Safety & Technology
The SLC 300 sets a high safety standard with an array of features, including driver and passenger frontal and side airbags, knee airbags, rollover protection, and side beams for collision protection. The attention assist system monitors driver inputs and recommends breaks when necessary.
In case of a breakdown, the SLC includes mbrace telematics for roadside emergencies and remote vehicle access. The driver stability controls consist of Anti-lock brakes (ABS), Traction control (TCS), Electronic stability control (ESC), active brake assist, blind spot assist, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Driving Performance
The new 2.0L four-cylinder engine produces 241 bhp and 370Nm. While it may not set lap records, it accelerates from 0-100km/h in a brisk 5.8 seconds, making it suitable for daily driving.
In sport mode, the SLC comes alive with rapid gear changes and an exhilarating exhaust note. The AMG line adds sport brakes and lowered suspension for enhanced handling.
