Nearly every carmaker all around the world has been affected by the chip shortage. With the increased demand after the COVID-19 pandemic, carmakers are cross about deliveries and giving long waiting times.
However, in a shock announcement, MG has said that its Middle East are at almost full capacity for 2022 and not affected by the shortage. WOW
This means that the British-born carmaker is one of the only car makers operating at an almost 100% supply rate. Since the start of 2022, MG Middle East has delivered 12000 units and looks to go from strength to strength with this trend likely to continue. THe MG 5, MG HS and all-new 2022 MG GT models are some of the most popular models and have been pre-booked by a number of customers.
MG has been able to tackle the chip shortage because of a memorandum of understanding with Shanghai New Micro Technology R&D Center Co., Ltd that the brand’s parent company SAIC has. According to the agreement, MG will participate in the Automotive Chip Engineering Center and give funding to it. By contributing to that center, MG will be able to get the chips from it.
Tom Lee, Managing Director of MG Motor’s Middle East operations, commented: “Through careful planning and organisation, we are able to reassure our customers that we continue to have sufficient supply of models to ensure we can fulfill all orders.”
“At the same time, our retail partners can push forward with their own business operations as normal, confident that the global chip shortage is having minimal impact on MG’s supply chain. This all comes at the beginning of a year when we plan to further expand our business across the Middle East and North Africa, with products that offer even better features and at even greater value for money,” he concluded.
