On Tuesday, Hyundai Motors announced that its Turkish factory has produced its one millionth vehicle, marking a significant event in the company's history in Europe.
Factory History and Production Growth
Since its inception in 1997, the factory located in Izmit has undergone numerous developments in production. Here are some key highlights:
- Production rate in 1997: 60,000 vehicles annually
- Production rate in 2007: 100,000 vehicles annually
- Production rate last year: 200,000 vehicles annually
Due to the increase in consumer demand, Hyundai invested $609 million to expand the factory, resulting in the addition of 2,500 new jobs, benefiting the local economy. The factory operates 24 hours a day across 3 shifts.

The most commonly manufactured vehicles are small cars, including:
- i10
- i20
The production rate for the first half of 2014 reached 98,290 vehicles, of which 54,175 vehicles were the i10 model.
