Mitsubishi's New Direction
During an event held three days ago, Mitsubishi announced its renewed focus on the crossover market while largely distancing itself from the sedan segment. This shift aims to enhance the company's profitability, as the sedan market has seen a notable decline recently.
Ceasing Lancer Production
Don Swearingen, Chief Operating Officer for North America, stated: "Production of the Lancer will cease in August of this year, with the 2017 model being the last produced. While there will still be some vehicles in stock after production stops, this year will mark the end of the Mitsubishi Lancer."
Growth of the Crossover Market
Swearingen further added: "As the crossover market continues to grow, we are stopping the Lancer production line due to the clear decline in the sedan market. However, we will keep the Mirage G4 to meet some of the demand in the sedan segment. We will certainly miss the Lancer production line and hope to see a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution again one day."
