UAE Traffic Fines: New Regulations and Penalties

In a bid to increase the safety of road users across the UAE, the Ministry of Interior has implemented a host of new traffic fines. These include, but are not limited to, speeding, reckless driving, and littering while driving. Below are the newly introduced fines that motorists should be aware of, along with their tariffs and respective black points.

1. Over Speeding

• Driving over the posted speed limit but less than 20km/h: AED 300
• Driving over the posted speed limit but less than 30km/h: AED 600
• Driving over the posted speed limit but less than 40km/h: AED 700
• Driving over the posted speed limit but less than 50km/h: AED 1,000
• Driving over the posted speed limit but less than 60km/h: AED 1,500 + 6 traffic points + 15 days impound
• Driving over the posted speed limit by more than 60km/h: AED 2,000 + 12 traffic points + 30 days impound
• Driving over the posted speed by more than 80km/h: AED 3,000 + 23 traffic points + 60 days impound

2. Reckless Driving

• Jumping a red light: AED 1,000 + 12 traffic points + 30 days impound
• Obstructing traffic: AED 1,000 + 6 traffic points
• Swerving dangerously: AED 1,000 + 4 traffic points
• Driving without number plates: AED 3,000 + 23 traffic points + 90 days impound
• Endangering the lives of others: AED 2,000 + 23 traffic points + 60 days impound

3. Driving Under the Influence

• Driving while under the influence of alcohol: A maximum fine of AED 20,000 and/or jail term to be decided by court + 23 traffic points + 60 days impound
• Driving under the influence of drugs: Fine and jail term to be decided by court + 60 days impound + 365 days license confiscation

4. Mobile Phone Usage

• Using mobile phone while driving: AED 800 + 4 traffic points

5. Overlooking Safety

• Failure to wear seatbelt while driving: AED 400 + 4 traffic points
• Driving with worn-out tires: AED 500 + 4 traffic points + 7 days impound
• Driving with expired insurance/registration: AED 500 + 4 traffic points + 7 days impound
• Applying more than 50% window tint: AED 1,500
• Driving a noisy vehicle: AED 2,000 + 6 traffic points
• Transporting passengers illegally: AED 3,000 + 24 traffic points + 30 days impound

6. Dangerous Behavior

• Littering while driving: AED 1,000 + 6 traffic points
• Driving quadbikes on the road: AED 3,000 + 90 days impound
• Jaywalking: AED 400
• Not leaving safe distance between vehicles: AED 400 + 4 traffic points
• Overtaking from the hard shoulder: AED 1,000 + 6 traffic points
