Nissan Serena: The New Minivan with ProPilot Technology
Launch of Serena in Japan
Nissan has recently launched the Serena minivan, which is set to go on sale in Japan at the end of August. This model will be equipped with the new ProPilot technology.
ProPilot Technology
ProPilot is an autonomous driving technology designed for use on highways and in single-lane driving. Nissan is the first Japanese automaker to implement a system that controls everything, including steering, acceleration, and braking. The primary goal of ProPilot is to reduce driver fatigue during heavy traffic and long-distance trips.
How Does ProPilot Work?
Activated via a button on the steering wheel, ProPilot utilizes advanced image processing technology to control the accelerator, brakes, and steering based on input from a single camera.
Main Features
- Automatic distance control between the vehicle and the car in front.
- Utilizes a speed preset by the driver (ranging from approximately 30 km/h to 100 km/h).
- Keeps the vehicle centered in the lane by reading lane markings.
- Manages driving even through turns.
Future Plans for ProPilot System
While it will be a while before this system launches in the Middle East, Nissan plans to introduce the ProPilot system in Europe by 2017. The company also aims to enhance the ProPilot system to support multi-lane autonomous technology by 2018.
