Engineering never ceases to amaze the world. Machines these days usually specialize in one particular area. However, if the machine is an ‘all-rounder’ then it does all the required tasks but cuts some corners as it doesn’t specialize in every task given. When it comes to cars, usually we see models specifically made for a purpose. E.g. some cars specialize in track performance, some on-road, some heavy dune bashing but once in a while, we do come across special vehicles that can go just about everywhere. And, such examples irk our interest the most.
One of those examples can be found in Russia. It is called the Sherp ATV. Yes, it is an All Terrain Vehicle but it does more than going on all terrains. This honky truck – which looks like those R/C cars we used to own in our childhood – can go through water as well. Cost for such awesomeness? 65,000 USD.
Coming to the details, the Sherp has self-inflated tires that help carry the girth up to 2.4 feet high obstacles as well as not drown in the water. This monstrous ATV is powered by a 1.5 liter inline-4 turbodiesel engine which 44 BHP. This power can propel the 1.3 ton behemoth to the top speed of 45 km/h on land but in the water it crawls at a pace of 5 km/h.
How does this 11-feet long truck work? Well, on land it is pretty much a tank with treads slowing on one side where the truck needs to turn. However, going through water is the interesting bit. The truck drains the water coming in and the tire treads act like paddles for floating over water.
The Sherp ATV is meant for extreme environments and it is touted as THE thing that will take you where no other machine can. The pricing starts at 65000 USD for the base model whereas the top model starts at 70000 USD. There is a possibility that we can see this vehicle in the GCC.
