Driving Experience of the Renault Laguna Coupe

Renault Laguna Coupe

As the weekend arrived, I finally had the opportunity to drive a car I've admired from the showroom window but never seen on the road: the Renault Laguna Coupe. After completing the delivery paperwork, I received the keys to a brown Laguna Coupe equipped with 18-inch wheels. The front grille and rear design, reminiscent of an Aston Martin, make this coupe quite stunning.

Performance

The Laguna is powered by a 3.5-liter engine that produces 240 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque. Although it has 36 horsepower less than the Honda Accord Coupe, it still provides an enjoyable driving experience. When you press the right brake pedal, a delightful sound emanates from the exhaust, although the acceleration was a slight disappointment, clocking 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds.

I appreciated that the Laguna came equipped not only with cruise control but also with a speed limiter, which is a handy feature for avoiding speed traps. The best part of driving the Laguna is the handling; the steering is responsive and very stable on the road.

On the downside, the fuel consumption of the Laguna is less efficient compared to the Accord Coupe, making it less economical. Another drawback is the absence of a traction control button, with no indicator to inform the driver if it is active or deactivated.

Interior

Interior of Renault Laguna Coupe

The model we tested featured a comfortable all-black leather interior that comfortably seats up to four adults. It doesn’t take long to notice that the interior design is superior to that of the Honda Accord Coupe.

While there are many plastic elements, they are covered in leather, which the Accord Coupe lacks. The sound system, equipped with eight "Bose" speakers, was impressive, allowing you to enjoy your music through USB, CD, and an AUX port.

On the negative side, the Laguna is not as well-equipped as the Accord Coupe. For instance, it lacks a sunroof, navigation system, and rearview camera. I was also disappointed to discover that it only offers heated seats, which is not a desirable feature in the Gulf region. Most surprisingly, the Laguna offers very limited trunk space; with the spare tire occupying the trunk, there's barely room for anything beyond a small handbag.

Summary

In summary, if we look at it rationally, the Accord Coupe is the better choice. It offers more features, greater space, and higher power. However, at a price that is 20,000 dirhams lower, the Laguna proves to be more fun to drive.
