Dubai's Solar-Powered Bus Shelters Initiative

Introduction

The initiative to install 100 bus shelters in Dubai is currently under trial, utilizing solar energy for cooling and powering systems, following the failure of air conditioning in over 160 bus shelters.

Contract with Right Angle Media

Right Angle Media, the authorized operator of bus shelters in Dubai, has entered into a contract with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to manage 650 air-conditioned bus shelters.

To improve functionality, they are considering redesigning the shelters to facilitate better air circulation in cases where the cooling systems fail.

Maintenance and Power Supply Challenges

Yousuf Al Ali, CEO of the RTA’s Public Transport Agency, stated in an interview with Gulf News: “We have a system in place through which the maintenance team is alerted immediately if there are complaints, and the ACs are fixed right away. However, if there are power supply issues, it takes time. We are working to ensure power supply to all shelters.”
