Ferrari loves to build one-off supercars every now and then for its avid lovers who have a big bank balance. The KC23 is the latest one-off from Maranello by "one very imaginative, passionate and exacting customer", who wanted a Ferrari that could showcase the future of closed wheel racing.
The KC23 took more than three years to build and is based on the 488 GT3 Evo, Ferrari's most successful racing vehicle to date with over 530 race victories and over 120 championship championships to its credit. Eagle eyed readers will notice that it does get some styling cues from the Daytona SP3. Ferrari says that despite being a track-only one-off, the KC23 gives us a "tantalizing glimpse" into the styling of future models.
Talking about the name, KC23, Ferrari has remained coy about it but we reckon it could be the initials of the collector.
Ferrari says that the KC23 “has a monolithic beauty, as if it were sculpted from a single block of metal". Talking about beauty, we’re told that the car’s giant, removable rear wing and motorized air intake vents pop out automatically when the engine is switched on. How cool is that? Also, it has butterfly doors. So that takes the cool quotient to another level.
The coolest thing about the KC23 is its Gold Mercury paint which features an aluminum-like finish thanks to liquid metal embedded into the four-layer paintwork.
In addition, it has side cameras rather than traditional mirrors for enhanced visibility and circulation. It has 18-inch wheels with slick tyres, with the option of 21-inch front and 22-inch rear alloy wheels also available. A robust roll cage and a steering wheel with an incredible 16 controls are also on offer. No matter whichever setup the KC23 is in, Ferrari strictly says that it is a track-only car only.
The KC23 is powered by the donor car’s twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 and the Italian carmaker hasn’t released any performance figures. We can tell you that the V8 powertrain produced 600 hp and 700 Nm of torque in the 488 GT3 Evo, so there will be no shortage of power.
People will be able to see the car in its flesh at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week, running from Thursday until Sunday.
