Oh Dear! Tesla Cybertruck Recalled Over Loose Body Panel That Could Fly Off
Tags:
There’s never a dull moment at Tesla. Whether it is the CEO running America’s DOGE department, or yet another autonomous driving footage, the company is always in the news.
Case in point, the recall of 46,096 Cybertrucks due to a stainless-steel body panel that could potentially fly off. Yup, you read that correctly.
Details of the recall
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified that the adhesive used to secure the cant rail panels can become brittle over time, leading to the panels loosening or detaching from the pickup truck.
Tesla has reported 151 warranty claims related to this issue but has stated that there have been no reported accidents or injuries associated with the defect. This particular recall marks the eighth for the Cybertruck since its release.
Tesla's Response and Repair Plan
In response to the issue, Tesla has updated its manufacturing process to incorporate a more reliable adhesive and additional reinforcements for the cant rail panels. For Cybertrucks already on the road, Tesla will provide free repairs to replace or secure the affected trim panels.
The Cybertrucks which could be affected by this are ones built between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. Thankfully, owners will be able to spot a delaminated cant rail because it'll either be obviously coming loose from the truck's body or it creating a noise… so one would know before a bit of their Cybertruck takes flight.
