Expansion of the Smart Parking System
Finding parking spaces in Dubai's busiest areas has become easier with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) expanding the smart parking system throughout the city. Initially introduced in the bustling Sheikh Zayed Road and the Bani Yas area in Deira, the system has now been extended to include:
- Al Riqaa
- Dubai World Trade Center
- Additional areas along Sheikh Zayed Road
Features of the Smart System
The system consists of a total of 2,030 ground sensors and 70 overhead cameras, providing easy access to 3,035 parking spaces across the city. This technology helps drivers locate available parking spots through:
- The RTA mobile application
- Electronic signage placed at parking locations
According to an RTA official, the new system saves drivers 20 to 30 percent of their time (averaging 8 minutes), eliminating the need for aimless circling around parking lots.
Official Statements
Mythah Mohammed bin Adi, the CEO of the RTA, stated:
"The system integrates advanced technologies such as ground sensors and digital cameras to monitor parking space usage by identifying vacant spots and transmitting the information instantly to the central system for display on information boards and the mobile app. With real-time data transmission, drivers have a clear idea of how many available parking spaces are accessible and their exact locations."
