Toyota Emirates Drifting Team Unveils the Toyota EDT 86 for UAE Championships

United Arab Emirates, Dubai, 13 November, 2012: The Toyota Emirates Drifting Team, in partnership with Al-Futtaim Motors, has officially begun its professional drifting journey by unveiling the Toyota EDT 86, a muscled version of the Toyota 86 that UAE drifting king Ahmed Al Ameri will utilize in upcoming drifting championships in the region.

The unveil occurred during the opening of the new Toyota showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road on November 5th, attended by Al-Futtaim Motors senior officials, a delegation from Toyota Motor Corporation, and members of the media.

Ready to captivate drifting fans with its striking appearance, powerful engine, and impressive drifting capabilities, the Toyota EDT 86 has been modified to meet the highest international drifting specifications and FIA safety standards.

Ahmed Al Ameri's Passion

Ahmed Al Ameri stated: “I grew up with a deep affection for cars and drifting. Driving sideways has always been my passion. Today marks the second step towards fulfilling my dream of having a professional team, driving a car that is beloved by all drifters, the Toyota 86. Safety Modifications

To comply with the highest international safety regulations, the Toyota EDT has been equipped with a 16-point FIA certified roll cage, as well as FIA certified seats, seatbelts, a fire extinguisher, and an upgraded brake and suspension system.

Performance Enhancements

One of the key modifications includes a highly sophisticated engine control unit (ECU), tuned by one of the best programmers in the GCC. The car's transmission has been upgraded to a shift-up, shift-down clutchless system known as ‘Dogbox’.

The heart of the 86 is the 2JZ engine, which has been enhanced with a full stroke kit, increasing its capacity from 3000cc to 3400cc.

Toyota EDT has selected a turbocharger that boosts the car’s BHP to over 600 horsepower. “This process was very challenging given the harsh weather conditions of the region. We wanted to ensure that our 86 maintains top performance at all times, so we had to make significant modifications to the cooling system,” commented Al Ameri.

Custom Features

Three crucial fixtures were specially customized for the vehicle:

• A rear radiator system that required balancing and special aerodynamics to maintain optimal cooling.
• An oil cooling system positioned at the front to enhance performance.
• An electronic water pump for smoother water delivery to the rear radiator.

Additionally, the alternator capacity was upgraded from 90 amps to 170 amps to ensure sufficient electricity production for optimal performance.

Fuel System Upgrades

The Toyota 86’s fuel system was fully upgraded by changing the in-tank fuel pump, allowing the in-tank fuel to deliver to a customized fuel catch tank. Two racing fuel pumps were also added to supply fuel to the engine.

Body and Handling Enhancements

To improve performance and handling, the Toyota EDT 86 features a “Rocket Bunny” body kit, customized to fit the car’s specifications.

The Toyota EDT 86 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in less than four seconds, achieving a top speed of over 300 km/hr, ensuring its presence will not go unnoticed. The car was modified by a team of three Emiratis, three Australians, and two Norwegians.
