2013 Chevrolet Tahoe Review
The Tahoe is named after the second-largest freshwater lake in the United States, which may explain why Chevrolet chose to name their large SUV after it. The 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe is quite similar to its predecessor but remains a popular choice in the Gulf region due to its relatively lower price compared to larger competitors like the GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade.
Differences Between Models
We will clarify the differences between these vehicles shortly. However, to start, all related models require a key to start the engine, and the higher trims offer a remote start feature via a separate remote control. The model we tested is the LTZ, and some of the mentioned features may not be available in other trims and may be optional extras.
Performance
All 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe models are equipped with the same 5.3-liter V8 engine, producing 320 horsepower and 454 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that includes 2H, 4A, 4H, 4L drive modes.
In our tests, we were able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in nine seconds and reach 140 km/h in 17 seconds. Check out the video:
This is a standard rate for SUVs, with a top speed of 185 km/h. The fuel consumption in the city averages 18 L/100 km, while on the highway, it drops to 12 L/100 km at a speed of 90 km/h, resulting in an overall rate of 17 L/100 km. As with most off-road vehicles, fuel consumption nearly doubles under certain conditions.
The Tahoe managed to stop from 120 to 0 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Watch the video:
The sound of the V8 is deep and throaty, enhancing the driving experience, though it remains quiet at higher speeds. Overall, the ride is pleasant, and the handling is responsive despite the vehicle's size and weight. Gear shifts are noticeable during acceleration and overtaking.
The suspension is quiet, meaning you won't hear noise when driving over bumps, speed breakers, or potholes. However, it does provide a strong rebound and bounce. Yet, you can still feel the motion even on smooth roads in the UAE. Off-road, the suspension performs well, but you may worry about the front bumper. The approach angle is low, making any attempts at speed on sandy hills or dunes risky without damaging the front bumper. Even attempts to drive alongside the dunes may hit the bumper. Nevertheless, this was the only issue we encountered, which could be resolved by installing a higher front bumper or visiting a maintenance shop after off-road excursions! Check out how we climbed the dunes in this video:
The traction control and stability control can be disengaged via a button, but there is no option to lock the front or rear differentials for better off-road performance.
Interior
In our opinion, the Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the most aesthetically pleasing and organized full-size SUVs. The interior design, dashboard layout, and console design are user-friendly. The finishing touches are acceptable, with no noticeable creaks or rattles. The seats are comfortable, and the materials used are of good quality, though the dashboard can feel rough and sticky. We are unsure why there is dark brown on the dashboard and door trims, with gray air vents, a black control center, and beige seats, which does not create a cohesive look.
Like other SUVs, the Tahoe lacks a rear tether for securing child seats. It has anchors for securing seats, but many child seats do not have this type of fastening.
The front seats are comfortable, but we can't say they are the epitome of comfort. The seats in the LTZ are heated, and the cooling feature is a nice touch. The rear seats seem fixed, making them less comfortable for longer journeys. The air conditioning vents are positioned above the passenger's head, which can freeze glasses if the passenger wears them. The third row lacks significant space, with passengers' knees nearly level with their chests. However, you can remove the third-row seats to create more cargo space. The second-row seats can be folded down at the touch of a button behind the seats, but you have to push the seat manually to fold it down.
Sound System
The BASE sound system was very good, even at maximum volume. It includes a feature that automatically adjusts sound levels based on vehicle speed. Videos can be played from the front only when the vehicle is stationary, but the rear screen can operate at all times. However, we couldn't play VCDs, but we successfully played a DVD.
Conclusion
Starting at AED 155,500 for the LS, the Tahoe is not cheap. The LT is priced at AED 162,500, the Z71 at AED 176,000, and the LTZ at AED 204,500. The features in the base model include keyless entry, electronic mirrors, air conditioning, electric rearview mirror, light sensors, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
