Introduction

Korean automakers have increasingly focused on the thriving luxury car market in the Gulf region. Similar to Hyundai, Kia has developed vehicles aimed at impressing affluent buyers in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other Gulf nations. So, where does the 2013 Kia Quoris stand among its competitors?

Performance

On the road, the 2013 Kia Quoris is more than capable of cruising on highways, with adjustable ride height options. However, it isn't the most powerful vehicle in terms of torque. The driving experience is comfortable, akin to that of the Cadillac XTS, making it a delight for those seeking smooth and practical driving.

Does the 2013 Kia Quoris provide the same driving sensation as a Mercedes, BMW, or Audi? Not exactly; it leans more towards comfort than high performance. At speeds exceeding 160 km/h, the ride stability doesn't quite match that of the aforementioned competitors. However, at cruising speeds of around 140 km/h, which is typical for most drivers, it feels smooth and comfortable. It also features cruise control to enhance driving comfort.

Fuel economy doesn't seem to be a major concern for drivers in the Middle East—fortunate for the Kia Quoris, which has a consumption rate of 16 liters per 100 km. There are three driving modes: Normal, Sport, and Eco. We primarily drove using the Normal and Sport modes.

Interior

What will impress—and delight—you about the 2013 Kia Quoris is the technology featured inside. We tested the fully equipped model, which boasted more features than those found in Mercedes, BMW, or Audi within this price range.

Cooling seats are a blessing in the heat of the Middle East, while rear-seat video screens provide entertainment that pairs beautifully with an impressive sound system featuring 17 speakers.

It feels as if Kia aimed to include every conceivable feature. They even shamelessly borrowed ideas from other brands; for example, the seat adjustments are inspired by the Mercedes S-Class, while the gear shifter recalls BMW designs, along with several other similar features. You’ll even find a button to determine the Qibla direction!

While the 2013 Kia Quoris has more features than its rivals in the same price bracket, the interior finish does not quite match the quality of its German competitors. German automakers may offer fewer features, but their materials are of superior quality. The Kia Quoris has more amenities but doesn't quite reach the same level of material excellence. Don't get me wrong—the materials are very good, but they don't match the high standards of German vehicles.

Exterior Overview

It’s easy to notice that many elements of the 2013 Kia Quoris are inspired by leading European brands; the front grille draws from Maserati, the gear shifter is reminiscent of BMW, and the headlights take cues from Audi. The rear of the car is simple, while the front boasts a modern and striking design.

Conclusion

At a price of 219,000 AED for the fully loaded 2013 Kia Quoris, you could also purchase a BMW 520i or a Mercedes E200. So, despite the clever features in the interior, will consumers be willing to stray from their loyalty to well-known brands to buy a Kia?

If the primary goal of purchasing a luxury sedan is prestige and a unique driving experience, this Korean brand will face tough competition from German manufacturers.

For its price, the 2013 Kia Quoris offers an impressive abundance of technology in the cabin that you won't find in a Mercedes or BMW at the same price point. This is the key selling point for the Kia Quoris—more features at a lower price. The Kia Quoris provides an alternative for those seeking comfort and luxury.
