Review of the Updated 2015 Ford F-150
Introduction
The Ford F-150, one of the brand's most significant vehicles, has finally received an update for 2015. This isn't just a facelift; Ford has revamped this iconic truck both inside and out, making it more robust for heavy-duty tasks. I was eager to test drive the Ford F-150.
Design
The Ford F-150 exudes strength. It's not merely a pickup for leisure activities; its size is substantial, requiring side steps to get in and out. With its wide mirrors, navigating parking lots in Abu Dhabi without bumping into anything is quite a feat. However, these mirrors are impressive in clarity, eliminating the need to check blind spots constantly.
The most notable change is the use of aluminum instead of steel, resulting in a weight reduction of 300 kg compared to the previous generation. This is significant, especially since we're not discussing a sports car; it still needs to carry heavy loads while maintaining high quality. The outcome is remarkable!
Overall, I loved the truck's appearance; these updates truly enhance its look.
Interior
The Ford F-150, as some might say, is a farmer's truck. This means it comes with only the essential features that are important in modern vehicles:
- Blind spot monitoring
- Radar cruise control
- Power steering
- Cameras
- Heated and cooled seats
The only downside is the Microsoft Sync system, which feels out of place in this truck.
As for interior space, it's ample — you could practically play soccer inside. Not quite, but you get my point; it's very spacious. Additionally, visibility is excellent from all angles.
Performance
I tested the 5.0L V8 engine, producing 385 horsepower and 387 lb-ft of torque. I wanted to try the 3.5L EcoBoost engine as I loved the one in the Expedition. As for the V8, its performance is what you'd expect from this class. It has enough power to move this massive vehicle, but the 6-speed transmission didn't perform outstandingly. Ford should either improve the transmission or offer an 8-speed option. Other than that, driving it felt like any other truck. I didn’t notice the weight reduction. As mentioned, this isn’t a sports car, so buyers aren’t necessarily focused on cornering speed; they know what they're getting into with this giant.
Conclusion
Overall, Ford has done a commendable job updating this best-selling truck in America. They've kept the essentials intact while making it more advanced and lighter. But will these updates resonate with the Gulf market and position Ford ahead of its competitors in this segment? Only time will tell.
