Chinese automaker Geely is at the forefront of pioneering a revolution in the automotive realm. Accelerating the adoption of Chinese automobiles and the decline of more traditional brands, Geely’s value proposition is one that runs strong within its line-up.

Launched in Oman to media representatives from the region, the Geely Emgrand X7 Sport is a masterpiece created by Peter Norbury and one that competes against the likes of the Hyundai Tucson. Embellishing the palatial entrance to the Hormuz Grand Hotel, the two-day event included everything from a blind test for quality to a scenic drive across Oman.

Spanning over eight hours and 350 kilometers, the drive activity included three well thought about stop points: Fanja Wadi, Nizwa Old Fort, and Alila Jabal Akhdar, with each stop intuitively demonstrating the car’s capabilities.

Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine, which puts out 155 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque, felt adequately powered all through the drive until approaching and ascending the notorious yet stunning Jabal Akhdar.

Cementing its value for money reputation, the 2017 Geely Emgrand X7 Sport is fitted with an 8-inch touch screen that integrates electronic controls to the AC, power steering and door locks, connectivity with smart devices, and a rear parking camera. The on-board navigation is provided by iGo, a leading European supplier.

Prices for the Chinese automobile range from AED 60,000 for the standard model to AED 80,000 for the fully-loaded variant – a steal indeed!
