2025 Ford Mustang GTD

Ford has unveiled the 2025 Mustang GTD, boasting an impressive 800 horsepower, entering the competitive arena with a vehicle enhanced by the best global and road-legal technologies.

In a bid to create a Mustang that can outperform the finest European sports cars, a team from Ford came together in 2021 in a metal garage adjacent to an aerodynamic testing building in Allen Park, Michigan. Initially viewed as an insurmountable challenge, their efforts ultimately yielded a remarkable result: a limited-edition street-legal car that remains true to the essence of the iconic Mustang.

Ford is preparing to launch the all-new 2025 Mustang GTD, a technologically advanced model inspired by the Mustang GT3, set to participate in the upcoming Le Mans race. It remarkably departs from its traditional heritage with unparalleled performance, characterized by a wide carbon fiber body and a prominent rear wing that distinguishes it from its predecessors.

Interior Features

Every component of the latest Mustang has been meticulously designed for precise functionality, aimed at achieving high-speed performance on racetracks while utilizing advanced technology to surpass other racing cars. The Mustang GTD has been developed by the minds behind the Ford Mustang GT and the award-winning Ford GT that conquered Le Mans, making it the fastest Mustang ever to hit the streets.

Jim Farley, Ford's CEO, stated: "We expect the Mustang GTD to shatter all preconceived notions about supercars. This approach is new for us; we've never designed a street car for racing use, but rather, we’ve created a race car that can be driven on the road. The Mustang GTD draws its technologies from the renowned Mustang GT3, wrapped in a carbon fiber Mustang body to unleash power on the streets."

Equipped with active aerodynamics that provide substantial downforce, coupled with the strong grip offered by large tires, advanced front suspension, and multi-link rear suspension, the Mustang GTD firmly grips the road. Carbon ceramic brakes ensure strong and effective stopping power, with a dual-clutch transmission mounted at the rear to achieve a balanced weight distribution of 50/50, powered by a stunning 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine delivering 800 horsepower.

Notably, the design of the new Mustang is the result of collaboration between Ford and Multimatic, the creators of the Mustang GT3, Mustang GT4, and the Ford GT that won Le Mans. The Mustang GTD embodies years of engineering advancements and practical racing experience, crafted with the utmost precision and design, poised to secure an important place in the history of Mustang and Ford.

Unleashing Power: Engine and Performance

The Mustang GTD features a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine with unique features such as dual air intakes and a pioneering dry-sump oil system that maintains engine viscosity during extreme cornering. Additionally, the active titanium exhaust system contributes to exceptional torque, resulting in the highest horsepower specifications Ford has developed to date.

Power is transmitted through a carbon fiber driveshaft and an 8-speed rear axle, achieving a balanced weight distribution of 50/50 between the front and rear wheels. The vehicle’s remarkable performance is enhanced by an advanced semi-active suspension system that adapts suspension rates and ride height for both road and track conditions.

Steering stability in the Mustang GTD is ensured by 325 mm front tires and 345 mm rear tires mounted on aluminum or magnesium wheels. Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, designed to withstand extreme heat, provide consistent braking performance. The vehicle includes innovative traction control technology for track mode, allowing real-time adjustments to engine output and traction control.

The interior design features luxurious materials such as Miko suede, leather, and carbon fiber, alongside digital displays for comprehensive control and information presentation. Race-inspired Recaro seats, 3D-printed titanium switchgear, and a titanium rotary gear shifter reflect a commitment to performance and precision. Additionally, the rear seating area has been removed to reduce weight and maintain cargo space.

Pricing of the Mustang GTD

It is important to note that the Mustang GTD is limited in production, with prices expected to start around $300,000. It will be manufactured at Ford's Flat Rock assembly plant before receiving final touches at Multimatic facilities. The stunning vehicle is anticipated to hit the market between late 2024 and early 2025, representing the pinnacle of Mustang evolution.
