2026 BMW i4 to come with More Range, More Power and Even More Appeal
Tags:
BMW has announced significant upgrades for the 2026 i4, enhancing efficiency and performance across the lineup. These refinements include an improved inverter technology and stronger output on flagship trims and they look to bring longer driving range and sharper acceleration.
Smarter Electronics Deliver Extra Miles
The biggest change lies under the skin: BMW is introducing a new silicon-carbide (SiC) inverter in the eDrive35 and eDrive40 models. This more efficient inverter reduces energy losses by about 5%, translating into real-world range boosts.
- eDrive35 sees an estimated increase from ~266 miles to approximately 279 EPA miles.
- eDrive40, which previously reached ~318 EPA miles, is now expected to stretch to around 334 EPA miles
These gains don't rely on a larger battery—just smarter power management—a clever way to improve range without adding weight or expense.
More Power in the M‑Series Model
BMW is also elevating the i4 M50, rebadging it as the i4 M60 xDrive. Under its skin, an additional 56 horsepower pushes total output to 592 hp.
What This Means for Drivers
For families or commuters opting for the eDrive models, those added EPA miles help ease range anxiety—without asking for more expensive battery upgrades. The efficiency upgrade also shows that engineers can eke out gains from incremental tech improvements.
Performance fans, meanwhile, now get a near-sub-3.7-second sprint from the M60 straight from the factory, without resorting to aftermarket tweaks. It’s a compelling package for those craving an all-electric yet dynamic driving experience.
When Will You See It?
BMW is expected to roll out these updates across global markets first, with refreshed i4 vehicles reaching North American showrooms in late 2025 to early 2026—just in time for the 2026 model year.
