Electric Car

Electric cars have gained significant popularity in recent years. The days of seeing G-Wiz electric vehicles that resembled electric bicycles are behind us. Now, we have electric cars from major manufacturers like Audi and BMW, along with the leading electric vehicle company, Tesla.

Tips Before Buying an Electric Car

However, purchasing an electric car can be a daunting task for many, and for various reasons. Here are three simple things you should know before and after buying your new electric vehicle.

  1. Perform a Simple Calculation

We're not asking you to conduct a complex calculation using the Pythagorean theorem, but we recommend considering the driving range and battery size of the electric car you plan to buy.

Is the driving range sufficient to get you to work and back home for over a week before needing a charge? If the battery is large and offers a considerable range, you’ll need to factor in that you will require a stronger charger for faster charging, along with suitable charging infrastructure. We have prepared two guides: one on how to install a charger at home and another that shows where you can find charging stations in the UAE and how to utilize their services. You can find links to these guides at the bottom of this article.

The next calculation, of course, is "price." Initially, the electric car that meets all your needs may seem expensive, but consider government subsidies and the fact that you won’t have to pay high gasoline prices for the week. After taking into account maintenance costs and subsidies, you'll understand whether your new electric car is cheaper than your current vehicle in the long run.

  2. Never Disable the Regenerative Braking System

Many electric cars feature a system called regenerative braking. This intelligent system charges your car's battery while driving by capturing energy that would typically be wasted, especially during braking. Some vehicles allow you to turn off the regenerative braking system (we're not sure why), but never consider disabling it.

  3. Sell Your Old Car

This may seem difficult, but you won’t need your old car once you purchase an electric vehicle. You might not sell it before buying your electric car, but selling your gasoline-powered vehicle should be a top priority, as you won’t drive it once you get accustomed to your new electric vehicle. We recommend selling it as soon as possible because once you see your beloved old car, you might find it hard to part with it and prefer it over your new eco-friendly car.
