All-New Ford Ranger Raptor: The King of Pickup Trucks

Ford Ranger Raptor

Introduction to the Ford Ranger Raptor

The Ford Ranger Raptor has always been the king of pickup trucks. Whenever the word performance and trucks are mentioned together, the Ranger Raptor’s name comes to mind.

Power and Performance

Now, Ford has unveiled the all-new Ranger Raptor, based on the next-generation Ranger, producing a monstrous 392hp and 583Nm of torque. All this power comes from a meaty 3.0-litre EcoBoost V6 (previously found in the Ford GT Supercar) mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Exhaust System

The Ranger Raptor now features a new electronically controlled active exhaust system with four modes:

  • Quiet
  • Normal
  • Sport
  • Baja

The Sport mode is super aggressive, while the Baja mode is loud and oozes proper rally sounds. Although Ford hasn’t revealed any performance stats, it is said that the Ranger Raptor will be “hot hatch-fast on dirt.”

Suspension and Durability

Ford Performance has equipped the Ranger Raptor with a new suspension that features more travel and FOX 2.5-inch Live Valve dampers, along with underbody protection, making the Ranger Raptor Baja ready. Yee-haw!

Driving Modes

The Ranger Raptor includes seven different driving modes:

  1. Normal
  2. Sport
  3. Slippery
  4. Rock Crawl
  5. Sand
  6. Mud/Ruts
  7. Baja

Just like the exhaust system, the Baja mode is “tuned for high-speed off-road performance with all systems set for maximum attack.”

Interior Features

The Ranger Raptor’s interior is equipped with a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster combined with a 12-inch vertical touchscreen featuring SYNC 4 and wireless support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with a 10-speaker B&O sound system. The Ford Performance seats feature Code Orange accents, designed with inspiration from jet fighters.

Design Philosophy

“Everything designed for the Ranger Raptor is there for a reason,” said Dave Dewitt, Ranger Raptor exterior design manager. “We’re communicating what Raptor can do just by the way it looks.”

Customer Expectations

“We knew that customers would expect improved performance with the next-gen Ranger Raptor, but I’m not sure they’re really expecting the enormous leap we’ve made. It’s a seriously fun car to drive and I think the raw performance is going to blow them away,” said Dave Burn, Ford Performance Chief Program Engineer for the Ranger Raptor.
