The Porsche 911 GT3 has been updated, arriving as both a celebration of its 25th anniversary and a further refinement of a proven formula. Why change something if it ain’t broke, right?

No Hybrid Power: the Iconic flat-six stays

The naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine, a beloved feature that delivers that signature Porsche wail as it revs toward its 9,000 rpm redline, is still there. Hurrah!

Despite the tighter regulations, Porsche has ensured that the power remains strong at 503 bhp. However, there is a slight drop in torque from 347 lb-ft to 332 lb-ft, but who cares when you’ve got such a peach of an engine.

Porsche’s updates to the cylinder heads, oil-coolers, throttle valves, and the adoption of the GT3 RS's camshaft make the new GT3 more responsive at higher revs.

Lightning-Fast Performance

Performance remains at the forefront of the 911 GT3’s appeal, with Porsche quoting a 0-62 mph time of 3.4 seconds when mated to the seven-speed PDK gearbox. Opt for the six-speed manual (yes, the manual has been saved), and you’ll still reach 62 mph in an impressive 3.9 seconds. The top speed sits at 193 mph (194 mph for the manual.

One of the key enhancements is the revised final drive ratio for both the manual and PDK, shortened by eight percent. The result is quicker acceleration across the board, enhancing the car’s eagerness in real-world driving scenarios, especially on twisting roads.

Aerodynamic Refinements

The front diffuser has been re-contoured, the spoiler lip adjusted, and underbody fins reworked, all contributing to improved stability and airflow management.

More importantly, Porsche has made adjustments to reduce pitch, ensuring more consistent downforce during braking and making the car more predictable in high-stakes driving scenarios. The front ball joint on the lower trailing arm has also been repositioned, borrowing inspiration from the GT3 RS.

The rear of the car benefits from similar refinements. Redesigned air inlets, a tweaked diffuser, and the rear lid combine to streamline airflow, while the GT3’s massive rear wing now features newly angled sideplates for enhanced aerodynamic efficiency. The engineering trickery in a 911 GT3 is simply unmatched.

Touring Model: A GT3 with Subtlety

For those seeking a more understated performance machine, Porsche offers the GT3 Touring, which forgoes the large rear wing for a more refined aesthetic. The Touring is also available with rear seats, a first for this model, adding a dash of practicality without compromising the driving experience. For the purists who love the thrill of driving but prefer to do it without drawing too much attention, the GT3 Touring is the ubiquitous choice.

Lightweight Options and Customization

Porsche enthusiasts are no strangers to options, and the 2024 GT3 offers plenty to enhance both performance and comfort. Aluminum wheels save 1.5 kg over the previous version, while opting for the magnesium wheels shaves off an additional 9 kg. These reductions, coupled with a slightly lighter battery, contribute to a total weight of 1,420 kg.

The Weissach pack for the GT3 includes carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) components like anti-roll bars, coupling rods, and a rear wing, along with Race-Tex upholstery and lightweight bucket seats.

The Clubsport pack comes with safety stuff like a roll cage, six-point harness, and fire extinguisher. If you want something less hardcore, the Touring model can be outfitted with the Leichtbau pack, which adds the CFRP elements of the Weissach pack, lightweight wheels, and a commemorative plaque, giving the Touring an exclusive edge.
