RAM Rebel TRX Concept: The Ultimate Off-Road Pickup
Overview
The RAM Rebel TRX Concept was envisioned to take on the popular and capable Ford F-150 Raptor. RAM has confirmed that the Rebel TRX Concept will be put into production in a few years. Just like the Raptor, the RAM Rebel TRX is designed to tackle the most rugged and challenging terrains imaginable.
Powertrain and Performance
The beastly-looking RAM Rebel TRX isn’t just a standard RAM with some aftermarket add-ons. The Rebel TRX is a fully-functional off-roading beast of a pickup. Under its muscular hood, it features a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 engine that produces 575 horsepower. Although torque figures haven’t been revealed yet, they are expected to exceed 600 Nm. This HEMI V8 is the same unit found in Hellcat models, where it makes 707 horsepower. To ensure the powerplant is off-road friendly and durable, engineers have slightly detuned it.
RAM is confident about the off-roading prowess of the Rebel TRX, claiming it can reach an incredible 160 km/h over any surface. This impressive speed for a pickup truck weighing over 2.5 tons is noteworthy! The transmission is handled by an 8-speed automatic torque-converter unit, distributing power to all four wheels via a specially-tuned RAM 4WD Performance Control System, which includes a BorgWarner transfer case for improved handling in tough conditions.
Suspension and Handling
The RAM Rebel TRX is equipped with an upgraded suspension system necessary for handling its significant power and torque. The suspension features front and rear bypass shocks with a multi-chamber setup for enhanced damping on rough terrain.
The suspension setup offers 40% more wheel travel compared to the standard 1500, providing a remarkable 13 inches of vertical travel for both the front and rear wheels. The Rebel TRX is fitted with massive 37-inch tires mounted on custom beadlock-design Mopar wheels, enhancing ground clearance, durability, and grip on loose surfaces.
Additional features include a custom Dynatrac rear axle with an electrically-operated locking mechanism, and a standard open differential at the front axle. To accommodate the larger tires and their wider track, the Rebel TRX has enlarged fenders.
Design and Interior Features
RAM has added an LED off-road lighting bar on the roof, towing hooks at both the front and rear, and two spare wheels located in the bed of the pickup. Inside, the cabin is equipped with part suede-covered seats featuring six-point harnesses for enhanced occupant safety. The interior sports suede trim with red-accent stitching for a lively, sporty appearance. The cabin floor is fitted with all-weather Mopar mats to minimize wear and tear.
Technology
The RAM Rebel TRX is packed with technology, featuring a 7-inch fully-digital driver’s display and an 8.4-inch infotainment system powered by the latest Uconnect technology. Additionally, RAM has integrated a custom camera behind the rearview mirror, allowing drivers to record their off-road adventures. Overall, the RAM Rebel TRX is set to be an exciting off-roading vehicle when it launches.
