Audi E-Tron GT and RS E-Tron GT: A Revolution in Electric Performance

Disclaimer: Do not press the seatbelt release switch as you glance through the details of this car. Failure to comply may result in whiplash deformities. For those with a profound inclination for automobiles, it is evident that one of the better days has just passed for Audi as they launched not just any car, but the most powerful Grand Tourer, the E-Tron GT and its polished sibling, the RS E-Tron GT, which elevates performance to an exhilarating new level.

Does it Look the Part?

The future is electric, which means that the E-Tron GT had to be striking and brawny. Thankfully, it is. Receiving strong inspiration from its ICE siblings, it boasts a glossy black finish on the grille, emphasizing its sporty sedan purpose. The iconic four rings emblem proudly sits on the grille, and a huge indentation on the hood adds aggression.

Audi's hallmark Matrix-LED tail lamps with clever laser-light technology are standard on the RS version. The air vents finished in gloss-black serve both style and function remarkably.

As a four-door GT, it exhibits a hunkered-down stance, tapering from front to rear. The side profile features optional 21-inch wheels, complemented by rear-wheel steering, while muscular haunches enhance its aesthetics. A three-chamber adaptive air suspension is standard across the range.

The rear view is particularly dramatic, with boomerang-shaped LED DRLs and a light sliver spanning the width. The bulky diffuser kit accentuates the car's sporty credentials.

How is the Cockpit Experience?

The Audi E-Tron GT is not just any model; it is the brand's halo model. Inside, you will find expensive materials surrounding you. The steering wheel and doors feature sumptuous alcantara, while the dashboard is wrapped in textured carbon-fiber trim. A gloss-black finish around the center console adds a modern touch.

Audi claims its “monoposto character” is inspired by the iconic R8 supercar. Inside, there are two digital screens: a 10.1” infotainment system and a 12.3” instrument binnacle interface. The impeccable finish and aluminum lining on the AC vents add to the car's flamboyance.

Unique features include camera screens for the wing mirrors, artificial sound that adjusts to throttle inputs, and advanced driver-assistance technology.

Performance: How Much Juice Does it Offer?

Equipped with launch control, the E-Tron GT delivers 530 hp, while the RS E-Tron GT offers 646 hp. The former can travel 488 km, and the latter can cover 472 km on a single charge (claimed). This is made possible by an 83.7 kWh battery, propelling the car with the force of a javelin throw. High-power charging can recharge the battery from 5% to 80% in just 22.5 minutes, allowing the car to cover 100 km on just 5 minutes of charging, according to Audi.

Carsten Bender, Managing Director of Audi Middle East, stated: “The introduction of the Audi E-Tron GT quattro and RS E-Tron GT marks an exciting time for the brand in the Middle East. With these models, we have introduced an Audi unlike any other – a stand-alone Gran Turismo, reinterpreted for the future. Its powerful electric motors provide dynamic driving performance and confident electric all-wheel drive.”

Should You Buy It Given That It is Electric?

The infrastructure for electric vehicles in most Middle-Eastern markets is still developing. While incentives are being offered to early adopters, the lack of charging stations and the cost of installation may affect the desirability of the car. However, Audi is working on developing high-performance charging infrastructure to alleviate range anxiety for potential buyers.

The Audi E-Tron GT is available for viewing, test drives, and purchase in regions such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar, with plans to expand into other Middle-Eastern markets. While the future looks promising for what has been dubbed ‘The most powerful Audi,’ it must first navigate the challenges that all EVs face before sales can soar, much like the car's impressive 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds!
