Introduction
Bentley has not kept pace with the automotive industry in recent years, as evidenced by their entry into the SUV market only four years ago with the Bentayga. Now, as the industry shifts towards electric mobility, this British marque is eager to establish its presence in this growing sector.
Shifting Towards Electricity
Adrian Hallmark, CEO of Bentley Motors, has confirmed that the brand will soon produce an electric vehicle, but it is unlikely to hit the market before 2025.
Reasons for the Delay
When asked about the delay, especially since many major manufacturers have already ventured into this market, Hallmark pointed out two main factors:
- High battery costs.
- The impact of these costs on vehicle pricing.
Hallmark elaborated, "The cost of batteries is six times that of an engine, while an engine accounts for 20% of the vehicle's cost. This means the ratio would be 120%, effectively doubling the price of the car. Electric vehicles are expensive today because batteries are expensive."
EXP 100 GT Concept Model
To give us a glimpse of what to expect, Bentley has previously showcased a fully electric model, the "EXP 100 GT Concept," which features:
- Four electric motors.
- A total power output of 1,340 horsepower.
- A torque of 1,491 Nm.
These figures come with impressive acceleration capabilities, allowing it to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in less than 2.5 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 300 km/h. Its expected range is an impressive 700 km per charge.
