BMW X7 Pick-Up Concept: Luxury Redefined

The BMW X7 Pick Up Concept might be the most outrageous idea from BMW in a long time, but for those who want an extraordinary vehicle that is extremely luxurious and packs amazing amounts of cargo space, there’s now an answer. It has taken BMW just 10 months from the launch of the X7 to create this Pick-Up Concept and today we’re going to take a closer look at it.

Exterior

Not only is this Pick-Up Concept based on the X7 but also shares many styling cues with it. For instance, the Kidney Grille, synonymous with all BMWs, and the little headlamps joining it, instantly remind you of the X7. The grille houses 7 chrome slats nicely finished. Adding to its stance are the tall air intakes where a chrome strip cuts neatly across. BMW has attempted to make the front as bulky as they could, which is evident in the form of its protruding grille.

The side doesn’t have much pomp except for two lines which meet the bed, along with black cladding across the car’s layout, giving it a more utilitarian look in contrast to the X7.

The rear is where all the similarities are bound to end. You are left bewildered by a 4.6 feet bed that expands to 6.6 feet with the boot opening up. To put that figure into perspective, the boot is just 0.4 feet smaller than the Jeep Gladiator. To give it a plusher feel, the entire cargo area features wood finishing. The Bavarian marquee has also worked diligently to shave off 200 Kg from its weight by using carbon fiber on areas such as the roof and rear doors. The rectangular tail lamps are all new and may remind you a little of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

Interior

As has been the case with pickups, we expect the interior styling to remain similar to the X7 SUV, which is what many will admire. BMW vehicles have always been simplistic on the inside, with everything oriented towards the driver, and we do not expect this pickup to stray from that trend. One can find themselves well accustomed to the visually appealing materials, such as the all-around wood finish.

Speaking of technology, it is likely that the X7 pickup will feature a fully digital instrument cluster layout for the dials. This screen will display cruise control settings, messages when your mobile phone is paired with the car, instantaneous fuel consumption, and more. We can also anticipate a slew of comfort features such as:

  • Heated front and rear seats
  • Massage seats
  • Smart key
  • Remote engine start
  • Lane departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control

Engine and Performance

Based on the X7 xDrive40i, we expect the pickup to deliver similar power and torque figures, which stand at 340 hp and a robust 450 Nm of torque. BMW might incorporate an 8-speed automatic transmission, having marked its presence in the X7.

Verdict

It is difficult to determine which segment the X7 pickup will fit into should it hit the production line. We assume its archrival will be the Mercedes Benz X class, which opened a niche segment. The X7 pickup might go up against it if it is launched. It is expected to pack in a similar quantum of power and technology and might prove to be as efficient as the X class, if not surpass it. However, price remains a key factor that will influence its market position. While BMW has officially stated there are no plans for its launch, we look forward to experiencing it one day.
