Comparing the Camry vs Accord vs Altima

The heavyweights collide.

Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is the undisputed champ in the midsize sedan segment. The car needs no introduction at all as it has been the go-to car for families. Coming to the 2016 model, well the shape was released last year so it is the newest of the lot. Also, this new shape makes the car look sporty. With the starting price of AED 83,900 in the UAE, the Toyota Camry sits between the Nissan Altima and Honda Accord. What you get for this price? Well, a 2.5 liter four cylinder engine producing 178 BHP mated to a 6 speed automatic (much better than the CVT gearbox). Moreover, you get pretty much all the base necessities with 16” steel wheels.

Honda Accord

The greatest threat to the Toyota Camry is the champion from Honda – the Accord. This shape has been in the market for quite a while and is in dire need of an overhaul. Coming to the 2016 model, it is pretty much the same in terms of looks. Moreover, the Honda Accord starts at AED 86,900 thus making it the most expensive offering among the three. For this price, you get a 2.4 liter liter engine producing 185 BHP which is the highest of the lot. However, there is the CVT transmission which is not great in terms of drive experience but gives you a great fuel economy. Also, you get DRLs and 16” aluminum wheels for that price.

Nissan Altima

The final contender in this comparison is the Nissan Altima. Refreshed in 2008, the Nissan Altima has garnered a lot of popularity in the GCC. With decent all round looks, the refreshed Altima has been here for quite a while and requires a change too. But, that all doesn’t matter to the regular consumer as the Altima is the cheapest of the lot – in the UAE. Starting at AED 69,999, the Altima is a steal in because it is about 14,000 cheaper than the Camry and 17,000 less than the Accord. For this price, you are getting a 2.5 liter engine producing 182 BHP mated to a CVT gearbox. Moreover, you are getting almost all the features of a Camry including the 16” steel wheels.

Verdict

In my opinion, the resale value matters when I am buying such an automobile. And, the Toyota Camry wins this competition.
