Ferrari 296 GTS Unveiled in the UAE for the First Time
Al Tayer Motors, the official Ferrari dealer in the United Arab Emirates, has introduced the all-new Ferrari 296 GTS for its first-ever appearance in the Middle East. The reveal took place at the exclusive Ferrari Lounge, specially arranged for Ramadan at the iconic Burj Al Arab. Launched just last week, the 296 GTS is a mid-rear-engined, two-seater Ferrari Spider, representing the latest and most advanced evolution from Maranello.
Official Statement from Al Tayer Motors
Raed Abu Sitta, Vice President of Ferrari Sales at Al Tayer Motors, commented: “We are proud and honored to be the world’s first Ferrari dealer to present this remarkable addition to the Ferrari family to our clients. Showcasing this sophisticated V6 sports car with its elegant lines on the terrace of the Ferrari Lounge at Burj Al Arab highlights its unique status and presence.”
Redefining Driving Pleasure: Ferrari 296 GTS and 296 GTB
The 296 GTS is designed to complement the 296 GTB, completely redefining the concept of driving excitement. It promises pure emotion and enjoyment, not only during high-performance driving but also in everyday use.
Powerful V6 Hybrid Engine
At the heart of the Ferrari 296 GTS is a brand-new V6 engine, delivering 663 horsepower, paired with an electric motor that adds another 122 kW (167 hp). Debuted in the 296 GTB, this marks the first time a six-cylinder engine has been fitted to a Ferrari Spider for the road, proudly bearing the Prancing Horse badge. The combined output reaches a class-leading 830 horsepower, offering staggering performance and a uniquely deep, innovative exhaust note—fully enjoyed when driving with the roof down.
Name and Heritage: The Significance of 296 GTS
The model name “296 GTS” reflects its 2,992 cc engine displacement and the number of cylinders, along with the initials for Gran Turismo Spider, in line with Ferrari tradition. This new V6 engine heralds a new era for Maranello, drawing on Ferrari’s 75-year legacy of engineering excellence.
Ferrari’s V6 Legacy
Ferrari’s first V6 engine, featuring a 65-degree architecture, was introduced in 1957 with the single-seater 1500 cc Dino 156 F2. In 1958, larger-displacement versions powered the front-engined 196 S and 296 S sports cars, as well as the 246 F1, which took Mike Hawthorn to the F1 Drivers’ Championship title that same year.
Hybrid Efficiency and Advanced Aerodynamics
The hybrid system of the 296 GTS offers remarkable ease of use, instant throttle response, and a 25 km electric-only driving range in eDrive mode. Thanks to its compact dimensions and advanced dynamic control systems, the car delivers exceptional agility and responsiveness. The sleek, sculpted design and aerodynamic efficiency are complemented by a modern interpretation of classic Ferrari styling, reminiscent of the iconic 1963 250 LM, a benchmark of simplicity and functional performance.
Innovative Retractable Hardtop (RHT)
The retractable hardtop (RHT) ensures excellent comfort for occupants. When folded, it maintains a sporty, elegant profile, and when closed, the roof closely resembles that of the 296 GTB. The lightweight RHT can open or close in just 14 seconds at speeds up to 45 km/h. The separation line between the body and roof sits above the B-pillar, allowing the roof to split in two and stow compactly above the front of the engine. This preserves the engine bay’s heat dissipation and overall design harmony. A rear window, integrated into the engine cover, showcases the new V6 powerplant. When the roof is open, an adjustable-height rear glass panel separates the cabin from the rear deck, maximizing comfort even at high speeds.
Aceto Fiorano Package for Ultimate Performance
For customers seeking the highest levels of power and performance, the 296 GTS is available with the Aceto Fiorano package. This option includes lightweight features and aerodynamic enhancements, similar to those offered on the SF90 Stradale.
