Dubai is well-known for its disciplined law enforcement to curtail overwhelmingly high rate of road accidents. To maintain a sense of responsibility among the people, heavy fines and penalties have been imposed for all violations. Here’s all you need to know about checking fines on your vehicle or driving license and modes of payment.

TYPES OF FINES in UAE:

  • Payable Fines: These are those penalties that only incur payment of a specific amount depending on the nature of violation. These generally include minor penalties that wouldn’t have posed a salient threat to the driving environment such as parking fines. Several channels of payment are available for these and there’s little risk of driving license suspension, incarceration or vehicle impoundment. Drivers are fined around AED 300 for small offences.

  • Non-Payable Fines: These are those violations that also involve attachment of some black points on the driver’s driving license besides payment of a fee for committing the offence. These generally allude to serious punishments and under certain crimes, can get the motorist’s car impounded. If the number of black points accumulates to 24 in any year, the driving license can be suspended for a period of 3 to 6 months after which, a driving rehabilitation course will have to be undergone by the person to avail the license back and resume driving.

WAYS TO CHECK FINES in UAE:

There are multiple ways to check if a ticket has been issued on the car’s number plate and driving license.

  • Dubai Police Website: It simply involves visiting the website, clicking on “Traffic Fines Inquiry” tab and filling in the various fields asking the vehicle or license information. It will show if there are any outstanding fines and if these can be cleared online or visiting a police station would be mandatory, depending on the offence.

  • RTA Website/App: It elucidates Logging into the RTA website or app and navigating to the “Driver and Car Owner Services” to view outstanding fines.

HOW TO PAY DUBAI TRAFFIC FINES:

Upon visiting the Dubai Police page, select the “Traffic Fines Payment” tab. Enter the vehicle number or the driving license number to review the fines. Select the ones you wish to pay and proceed to payment. Enter your card details and complete the payment.

  • Dubai Police App: Payments can also be made through the Dubai Police app which requires logging in and visiting the “Fines Inquiry and Payment” section. Enter your vehicle or license details to view the fines and pay.

  • RTA App and Website: Like Dubai Police app, RTA also has its own dedicated app which grants access to services such as top-up of parking balance, salik, nol card and even lets you save and renew important documents such as driving license, parking permits and so on. Fine payment can be done through the app using any card saved in it.

  • Payment Kiosks: Fine Payment can also be done on the go. Public places such as malls, police stations and RTA offices have RTA kiosks installed where payment can be done in person in similar manner as done through websites and apps.

  • RTA Centers: RTA has constructed a bevy of customer happiness centres where services such as fine payment, renewal of driving and vehicle license are possible. There are representatives present to guide you with the process.

It should be noted that prompt payment of fines within a stipulated time can offer concessions. Dubai Police is known to roll out amnesty program during a particular time of the year where fines can be wholly or partially waived off if certain conditions are met. To make it more convenient, fines exceeding AED 5,000 can be paid in instalments
