Hyundai Motor Corp said that on Tuesday, its Turkey factory rolled off its 1 millionth production vehicle thus achieving a milestone in the company’s history in Europe.

Since its inception 1997, the factory in the city of Izmit has witnessed production capacity over the years. From a modest 60000 units per year in 1997, it gradually increased production to 100000 in 2007 and last year that number doubled to 200000 units per year. Due to rise in consumer demands, Hyundai had added $609 million to expand its production facility which also added 2500 new jobs thus benefiting the national economy. The factory runs 24/7 on 3 shifts.

The star cars being produced are the superminis – i10 and i20 – that have become the key to the company’s expansion in Europe. The total units produced in the first half of 2014 reached 98290 out of which 54175 were i10s.
