While social distancing and staying home are of paramount importance during these challenging times, chances are that you still use your car to pick up things like your weekly groceries. Before heading out, it’s important to stay updated with the latest rules and regulations imposed by your local Government and abide by them too. If you must leave your home, however, here a few useful tips to help you along the way.
Avoid Unnecessary Travel
Visiting doctors, pharmacies and groceries are all acceptable reasons to leave home, however, try and cut out the unnecessary travel. Buy groceries in slightly larger quantities if needed because the lesser time you spend outside, the lesser your chances of contracting the virus.
Keep Your Car Clean
Assuming that you and your family are the only ones using your car, it is safe to treat it as an extension of your home. Should someone else drive your vehicle, remember to disinfect touchpoints such as the door handles, steering wheel, indicators, and the gear shifter. It is also important to remember to wash your hands before and after driving your vehicle.
Public Stops
Although we are lucky in that we do not need to leave our vehicles when refueling at a petrol station, should the need arise for you to operate the pumps, it is important to wear disposable gloves before touching any of the equipment or surfaces around.
Handling a Puncture
Should you have the unfortunate luck of a breakdown or a puncture while out in your vehicle, try and fix the issue by yourself. If you cannot, reach out to roadside assistance and remember to maintain the rules of social distancing once the team has arrived.
