Lotus Emira GT4: The Next Step in Motorsport Excellence

Lotus Emira

Introduction

Lotus stunned fans with the reveal of the Emira, marking a significant shift towards electrification. This emotional moment signifies the end of an era for Lotus as the Emira prepares to leave its legacy behind. However, the journey isn't over yet, as this model is set to represent the brand in various tournaments. In a partnership with RML Group, a UK-based motorsport and high-performance engineering company, Lotus aims to develop a track-ready version called the Emira GT4.

Heritage and Performance

The Emira carries forward the heritage established by its predecessors like the Evora, Elise, and Exige. Notably, the Evora GT4 has achieved accolades in prestigious racing events, including:

  • British GT
  • Dubai 24hrs
  • Barcelona 24hrs
  • European GT
  • Sepang 12hrs
  • Pirelli World Challenge

Engine and Features

Lotus promises every customer a hand-built and homologated machine composed of lightweight materials, adhering to advanced safety norms. The Emira GT4 is powered by Toyota's reliable 3.5-litre V6 engine, producing 400 hp at 7,200 rpm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters for enhanced responsiveness.

Expert Insights

Richard Selwin, Race Programme Manager at Lotus, stated, “The all-new Emira GT4 is an exciting next step following the hugely successful launch of the Emira road car. We have worked hard with the team at RML Group to ensure this next generation of Lotus GT car will deliver race-winning performance.”

Lotus has a rich history in motorsport, dating back to the Mark 1, an experimental vehicle created by founder Colin Chapman. The Emira GT4 is set to uphold this legacy, showcasing cutting-edge technologies along with the seven Formula 1 Constructor’s Titles and six Driver’s Championships.

Collaboration and Future Plans

Simon Holloway, Commercial Director of RML Group, expressed, “We are delighted to be collaborating with Lotus on the all-new Emira GT4 Concept. Both companies have a long and successful motorsport pedigree, and to bring that together at such an exciting time for Lotus is a welcome validation of our vision and values.”

Fans can look forward to Lotus returning to world motorsport, supported by its consultancy division, Lotus Engineering, and collaborating with the JBXE Extreme E race team, featuring world champion Jenson Button.

Final Thoughts

Gavan Kershaw, Director of Vehicle Attributes for Lotus, remarked, “The all-new chassis on which the Emira has been developed is the perfect starting point for a high-performance race car. Everyone at Lotus is so excited to be returning to world motorsport and to be doing so with such a competitive race car.”

A spectacular car deserves a spectacular launch, and the Emira GT4 will make its debut at the Hethel test track, a renowned site for the development of iconic vehicles. The model year 2022 will see a limited production run, with plans to ramp up for 2023 based on consumer interest. As Lotus bids farewell to its gasoline-powered vehicles, it aims to uphold the legacy of its predecessors with style and performance.
