Land Rover Defender Octa: The Most Powerful Defender Yet
Land Rover has unveiled the “most dynamically accomplished Defender ever” - the Octa. The Octa is also the most powerful Defender ever. Land Rover says that the Octa name is inspired by the eight sides of a diamond, which is “the hardest and most desirable mineral on earth.”
Unmatched Speed and Power
The Defender Octa can accelerate from 0-100 kph in just 3.8 seconds, achieving sports car pace from a massive SUV. It is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter mild-hybrid V-8 engine that produces 626 horsepower and up to 590 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Superior Chassis and Suspension
In addition to its powerful engine, the Defender Octa features Land Rover’s 6D Dynamics chassis, which minimizes body roll and enhances off-roading capabilities with its tweaked suspension.
Enhanced Dimensions
The Octa boasts a 1.1-inch increase in height and a 2.7-inch wider stance compared to the standard model. It includes:
- Extended and reinforced cross arms
- Unique active dampers for enhanced performance
Thanks to the increased height, the Defender Octa can wade into 3.3 feet of water!
Improved Braking and Steering
The SUV is equipped with 15.7-inch front brakes and six-piston Brembo calipers, ensuring superior stopping power. Additionally, it features the quickest steering ratio ever seen in a Defender, promising agile and responsive handling.
Luxurious Interior Options
Inside, you will discover performance seats enhanced with Body and Soul Seat audio technology. The standard interior of the new Defender Octa features:
- Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather
- Ebony Kvadrat fabric
- Optional interiors in Light Cloud and Lunar or ebony leather
The exclusive Octa Edition One, marking the first year of production, offers a unique two-tone khaki and ebony seat upholstery.
Stylish Exterior Enhancements
The Octa features a new grille for improved airflow, quad tailpipes with an active exhaust system, and an aluminum alloy front under shield for underbody protection. Additionally, it includes:
- Graphite finish
- Exposed Phosphor Bronze-finished front and rear recovery points
The Defender Octa is equipped with massive 33-inch Goodyear Advance All-Terrain tires, which are the largest tires ever fitted to a Defender. To accommodate these tires, the wheel arches are extended, and the bumper has been redesigned for better approach angles.
Customers can choose from four paints for the Octa:
- Petra Copper
- Faroe Green
- Carpathian Grey
- Charente Grey
All models will feature a beautiful diamond circled graphic and contrasting Narvik Black roof and tailgate.
Mark Cameron, Managing Director, Defender, stated: “With the New Defender Octa, we have unlocked the full potential of Defender. It is the very definition of breadth of capability and a testament to what we can achieve by utilizing the very best technologies and talents within our engineering division. With its powerful V8 engine, ground-breaking 6D Dynamics suspension technology, exquisite finishes, and unique detailing, it is rare, incredibly tough, and inherently desirable.”
The Defender Octa is set to make its public debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 11-14.
