This 1,340 hp concept car is a glimpse into Mercedes-AMG’s Electric Future

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the GT XX Concept, a four-door electric hypercar that offers a glimpse of the brand’s next era in electrified performance. Packing up to 1,360 hp and topping out at over 220 mph, this is our first sneak peek into Merc’s performance division’s EV lineup.
Electrifying Powertrain: Axial-Flux Innovation
At the heart of the GT XX lies a tri-motor setup developed with UK specialist YASA. The two motors power the rear wheels via an oil-cooled unit with planetary gearing, while a detachable front motor assists during acceleration or traction-intensive situations. This Axial-Flux stuff really sounds like witchcraft, right?
Together, all the motors produce a whopping 1,340 hp and unleash full performance under AMG’s new AMG.EA EV architecture.

Hyper-Efficient, Hypercharged Battery System
The GT XX uses an advanced 800-volt battery with cylindrical NCMA cells and silicon anodes. Each cell is individually cooled by a non-conductive oil circuit, enabling sustained output and reliability during intense usage.
This configuration allows for blisteringly fast charging adding about 400 km (250 miles) of range in just five minutes with an 850-kW charger.

Aerodynamics and Active Tech
Aerodynamics take center stage in the concept. Its drag coefficient stands at just 0.198, thanks to an efficient fastback profile, active air curtains, and low-drag underfloor design.
Unique 21-inch active aero wheels feature movable blades that adjust for high-speed airflow or brake cooling, harvesting energy from wheel rotation to power actuators without tapping the high-voltage system.

Artificial V8 Noise: Sacred or Sacrilege?
The interior audio reacts to throttle and speed. Yes, there is a ‘fake’ V8 noise on offer. Now, whether car enthusiasts need such sound in an EV to make it as engaging as petrol cars or its just a massive farce, that is still debatable.
Design DNA & Road to Production
Visually, the GT XX echoes past icons like the C111, featuring Sunset Beam orange paint, concave grille bars, and six circular taillights. The interior focuses on performance with racing seats, a massive dual-display console (10.25-inch instrument and 14-inch touchscreen) and weight-conscious design elements.

Although noted as a concept, the GT XX rests on real hardware, and AMG confirms most drivetrain elements - including axial-flux motors and battery systems - are production-ready.
Next Steps for AMG’s EV Hypercar Future
The GT XX previews a new performance halo model set to arrive in 2026 under AMG.EA architecture. Beyond this, Mercedes plans an AMG electric SUV and possibly more exotic derivatives. Strap in, it's gonna be quite an electric ride at AMG!
